THE RETURN OF CHRIST AS KING OF KINGS

INTRODUCTION:
The return of Jesus Christ is a defining moment in the history of the world. It is not a distant dream, but a promise that will soon be fulfilled. Revelation 19:11-16 paints a powerful picture of Christ’s second coming, where He will return not as a humble servant, but as the mighty King of kings, ready to establish His eternal rule.
This event will bring justice, victory, and the ultimate triumph of righteousness. As believers, our hearts should be filled with anticipation, hope, and preparation for the glorious return of our Savior. The return of Christ is not just an event to look forward to but a call for us to live in readiness and faithfulness.
In this sermon, we will explore the nature of Christ's return, His role as King, and what it means for believers today. The picture of Christ as the King of kings will encourage us to live with a sense of urgency and purpose as we await His glorious return.
1. CHRIST RETURNS AS THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE
Christ’s return will mark the moment when justice will finally be served.
a) He Comes to Judge the Nations (Matthew 25:31-32)
Jesus will separate the righteous from the wicked, rewarding the faithful and punishing the unrighteous.
b) He Comes to Vindicate His People (Revelation 6:10)
Christ will bring justice for all those who have suffered for His name’s sake.
c) His Judgment is Fair and Just (2 Timothy 4:8)
He will render to each according to their deeds, without bias or error.
d) His Judgment is Swift (Revelation 19:11)
Christ’s justice will be carried out swiftly and decisively, leaving no room for delay.
e) Biblical Example: The Flood of Noah’s Day (Genesis 7:17-24)
The flood was a swift and just judgment, a warning of the coming judgment when Christ returns.
2. CHRIST COMES WITH POWER AND AUTHORITY
Jesus will return in power, demonstrating His supreme authority over all creation.
a) His Authority is Unquestionable (Philippians 2:9-11)
Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
b) He Comes to Defeat His Enemies (Revelation 19:15)
Christ’s return will be the final defeat of all His enemies—Satan, sin, and death.
c) His Power is Unmatched (Matthew 28:18)
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him, and He will exercise this authority when He returns.
d) He Comes as a Mighty Warrior (Revelation 19:11)
Christ’s return will be marked by His military might, conquering all who oppose Him.
e) Biblical Example: David’s Victory Over Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45-50)
Just as David overcame Goliath with God’s power, Christ will defeat all forces of evil with supreme power.
3. CHRIST WILL BE RECOGNIZED BY HIS NAME AND TITLES
When Christ returns, His divine identity will be revealed to all.
a) King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16)
Christ’s reign is absolute, and His rule will be over all earthly and heavenly powers.
b) Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11)
Jesus is completely trustworthy and loyal, fulfilling every promise He has made.
c) The Word of God (Revelation 19:13)
Christ is the eternal Word made flesh, bringing truth and light to all.
d) The Almighty (Revelation 19:15)
He is all-powerful, with no rival, and will judge with unmatched might and authority.
e) Biblical Example: The Glory of God Revealed to Moses (Exodus 34:5-7)
Just as Moses saw the glory of God in part, Christ’s full glory will be revealed when He returns.
4. THE RETURN OF CHRIST IS A TRIUMPHANT EVENT
The return of Christ will be a victorious celebration for believers.
a) A Victory Over Satan and Evil (Revelation 19:19-21)
Christ’s return will be the ultimate victory over all forces of darkness.
b) A Victory for the Church (Ephesians 5:27)
Christ will return for a glorious Church, without spot or wrinkle, made perfect in Him.
c) A New Heaven and New Earth (Revelation 21:1)
His return will usher in the new creation, where there will be no more sorrow or death.
d) A Day of Rejoicing for the Righteous (Luke 21:28)
Believers will look up with joy, knowing their redemption draws near.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:9)
Just as Jesus entered Jerusalem in triumph, His return will be a celebration of His reign.
5. CHRIST’S RETURN CALLS FOR PREPARATION AND FAITHFULNESS
Christ’s return is an event that calls us to live in constant readiness.
a) Be Watchful and Ready (Matthew 25:13)
We are called to be vigilant, waiting for the return of the Bridegroom.
b) Live Holy Lives (1 Peter 1:16)
Christ’s return should motivate us to pursue holiness and purity.
c) Work While It Is Day (John 9:4)
We are to be faithful stewards, doing the work of the kingdom until He returns.
d) Keep Your Faith Strong (Hebrews 10:23)
Hold fast to your profession of faith without wavering.
e) Biblical Example: The Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13)
The wise virgins were prepared for the Bridegroom’s return, unlike the foolish ones who were unprepared.
CONCLUSION:
The return of Christ as King of kings is the most glorious and anticipated event in the history of the world. It will be a time of judgment, power, and triumph for those who belong to Him. As believers, we are called to live in readiness, hope, and faith, eagerly awaiting His return.
Let this truth shape how we live our lives today. May we be found faithful, holy, and ready when our King returns to take us to His eternal kingdom.
