INTRODUCTION:
Sacred living is a call to a life of holiness, purity, and devotion to God. In a world filled with compromise and moral decay, God expects His children to live differently, reflecting His nature in their thoughts, actions, and lifestyle. Sacred living is not an option but a command for every believer who desires to walk in the fullness of God's presence and power.
To live a sacred life means to be set apart for God’s purpose. It is a life that rejects sin and embraces righteousness. Sacred living is not about religious rituals but about having a heart that is fully surrendered to God, walking in obedience to His Word, and seeking to please Him in all things.
In this study, we will explore what sacred living entails, its benefits, and how we can uphold this standard in our daily lives.
1. SACRED LIVING BEGINS WITH A CONSECRATED HEART
True sacred living starts from the heart, not just outward appearances.
a) A pure heart is essential for sacred living (Matthew 5:8).
Only those with a pure heart will see God.
b) We must guard our hearts against corruption (Proverbs 4:23).
The heart is the source of life; it must be protected.
c) Sacred living requires inner transformation (Romans 12:1-2).
We must renew our minds to align with God’s will.
d) God examines the heart, not just external actions (1 Samuel 16:7).
Holiness starts within and manifests outwardly.
e) Biblical Example: David’s Heart of Consecration (Psalm 51:10-12).
After his fall, David prayed for a clean heart and a right spirit.
2. SACRED LIVING DEMANDS HOLY CONDUCT
Our lifestyle must reflect our devotion to God.
a) Holiness should be evident in our daily lives (1 Peter 1:15-16).
We are called to be holy as God is holy.
b) Our speech must be pure and edifying (Ephesians 4:29).
Sacred living involves speaking words that glorify God.
c) We must flee from all forms of immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18-20).
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
d) Sacred living requires discipline and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
The fruit of the Spirit helps us walk in holiness.
e) Biblical Example: Daniel’s Commitment to Holiness (Daniel 1:8).
Daniel refused to defile himself with the king’s food.
3. SACRED LIVING REQUIRES SEPARATION FROM THE WORLD
We are in the world but not of the world.
a) We must not conform to worldly standards (Romans 12:2).
Our minds should be transformed by God’s Word.
b) Friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4).
We cannot serve God and the world at the same time.
c) Sacred living means being different for Christ (2 Corinthians 6:17).
God calls us to come out from among them and be separate.
d) Light and darkness cannot coexist (Ephesians 5:8-11).
We are called to expose the works of darkness.
e) Biblical Example: The Israelites Called to Be a Holy Nation (Leviticus 20:26).
God set Israel apart as His chosen people.
4. SACRED LIVING COMES WITH SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES
A sacred life is nurtured through spiritual practices.
a) Prayer keeps us in alignment with God (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
A prayerful life is a sanctified life.
b) The Word of God purifies us (John 17:17).
God’s Word sanctifies and keeps us holy.
c) Fasting helps in spiritual purification (Isaiah 58:6).
It helps break yokes and draws us closer to God.
d) Worship strengthens our intimacy with God (John 4:23-24).
True worship is in spirit and truth.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus’ Devotion to Prayer and Fasting (Luke 5:16).
He often withdrew to pray, setting an example for us.
5. SACRED LIVING BRINGS DIVINE REWARDS
God rewards those who live holy lives.
a) Holiness grants access to God’s presence (Hebrews 12:14).
Without holiness, no one will see the Lord.
b) Sacred living attracts divine blessings (Psalm 1:1-3).
Those who walk in righteousness prosper in all they do.
c) A holy life secures eternal rewards (Matthew 25:21).
The faithful will be welcomed into God’s kingdom.
d) God fights for the righteous (Psalm 34:7).
His angels encamp around those who fear Him.
e) Biblical Example: Enoch’s Walk with God (Genesis 5:24).
He lived a holy life and was taken by God.
CONCLUSION:
Sacred living is not just about avoiding sin; it is about being fully dedicated to God in every aspect of life. It requires a pure heart, holy conduct, separation from the world, spiritual disciplines, and a constant pursuit of God’s presence. Holiness is the pathway to divine favour, protection, and eternal rewards.
