INTRODUCTION:
Life is filled with various celebrations—weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and victories. However, not every celebration glorifies God. In John 2, Jesus was invited to a wedding, and His presence turned a moment of lack into a supernatural display of abundance and joy.
When Jesus is honoured in our celebrations, His glory is revealed, and His blessings flow without limit. This sermon will explore how to honour Jesus in every celebration of life through His presence, obedience, thanksgiving, joy, and a life of holiness.
1. THE PRESENCE OF JESUS MAKES EVERY CELEBRATION MEANINGFUL
Every true celebration becomes special when Jesus is at the centre.
a) Jesus should always be invited into our gatherings (John 2:2)
The wedding in Cana was transformed because Jesus was present.
b) When Jesus is present, lack turns into abundance (Psalm 23:1)
With Him, nothing shall be missing or broken.
c) A celebration without Christ is empty (John 15:5)
Without Jesus, any celebration lacks true joy and purpose.
d) The glory of God is revealed when He is honoured (John 2:11)
The miracle at Cana manifested His power and led people to faith.
e) Biblical Example: The Feast of Dedication (John 10:22-23)
Jesus attended and used the occasion to reveal Himself as the Son of God.
2. OBEDIENCE TO JESUS BRINGS SUPERNATURAL JOY
Following Jesus' instructions always leads to miraculous transformations.
a) Miracles happen when we follow divine instructions (John 2:7)
The servants at Cana obeyed Jesus and witnessed a great miracle.
b) Obedience brings divine favour (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Those who obey the Lord walk in blessings.
c) Disobedience hinders the move of God (1 Samuel 15:22)
Saul’s partial obedience led to his rejection.
d) Simple faith in Jesus’ word changes everything (Luke 5:5-6)
Peter obeyed and experienced an overwhelming breakthrough.
e) Biblical Example: The Feeding of the 5,000 (Matthew 14:16-21)
The disciples obeyed Jesus, and the little they had multiplied abundantly.
3. THANKSGIVING SHOULD BE THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY CELEBRATION
A grateful heart glorifies God and attracts more blessings.
a) True celebrations should begin with thanksgiving (Psalm 100:4)
We enter His presence with thanksgiving and praise.
b) Giving thanks multiplies what we have (John 6:11-12)
Jesus gave thanks before feeding the multitudes, and abundance followed.
c) Gratitude honours God and brings increase (Luke 17:15-19)
The one leper who returned to give thanks received wholeness.
d) Every moment of joy should be dedicated to God (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Rejoicing and thanksgiving are God’s will for us.
e) Biblical Example: David’s Celebration Before the Ark (2 Samuel 6:14-15)
David danced and gave thanks, bringing honour to God.
4. JOY THAT HONOURS GOD COMES FROM A RIGHTEOUS LIFE
True celebration is not just external but is rooted in righteousness.
a) The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10)
Godly joy sustains us in every season.
b) Righteousness brings lasting joy (Psalm 32:11)
Those who walk uprightly rejoice in the Lord.
c) Worldly celebrations bring temporary pleasure but no peace (Ecclesiastes 2:1-2)
Solomon discovered that worldly pleasure is vanity.
d) A life devoted to Christ produces eternal joy (Philippians 4:4)
Rejoicing in the Lord is the key to lasting celebration.
e) Biblical Example: Paul and Silas Singing in Prison (Acts 16:25-26)
Their celebration in hardship led to divine intervention.
5. HOLINESS MAKES EVERY CELEBRATION ACCEPTABLE TO GOD
Not every celebration pleases God; only those grounded in righteousness.
a) We should glorify God in all we do (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Every celebration must be done for God’s glory.
b) God rejects celebrations that dishonour Him (Isaiah 1:13-14)
False celebrations without righteousness displease Him.
c) True joy is found in a life set apart for God (Romans 12:1-2)
A holy life is a celebration of God's goodness.
d) We must avoid worldly excesses in celebrations (Ephesians 5:18-19)
Be filled with the Spirit, not drunkenness.
e) Biblical Example: The Prodigal Son’s Restoration (Luke 15:22-24)
His return was a true celebration because it symbolised repentance and restoration.
CONCLUSION:
Every moment of celebration should honour Jesus. Whether in times of joy or success, His presence must be acknowledged. A celebration without Jesus is temporary, but when He is glorified, His presence brings lasting joy and supernatural blessings.
As we celebrate milestones in life, we must ensure that our joy, thanksgiving, and conduct align with God’s will. Let every gathering be an opportunity to glorify Jesus, and He will turn every occasion into a testimony of His faithfulness.
