INTRODUCTION:
Jesus is not just our Saviour; He is also our Rewarder. He sees everything we do, whether in secret or in the open, and He is faithful to reward those who serve Him diligently. Unlike human recognition, which can be temporary and biased, the reward that Jesus gives is eternal and perfect.
Many people serve God faithfully but feel discouraged when they do not see immediate results. However, the Bible assures us that God is not unjust to forget our labour of love (Hebrews 6:10). Whether in this life or in eternity, Jesus will surely reward those who remain faithful to Him.
In this sermon, we will explore five key areas where Jesus rewards His people: faith, obedience, service, perseverance, and soul-winning.
1. JESUS REWARDS FAITH
Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God, and He rewards those who trust Him.
a) He rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6)
Without faith, it is impossible to please God, but those who seek Him receive great rewards.
b) He rewarded Abraham’s faith (Genesis 22:16-18)
Because Abraham believed God, he was blessed beyond measure.
c) He rewards faith with answered prayers (Mark 11:24)
Whatever we ask in faith, believing, we shall receive.
d) Faith brings divine protection and provision (Psalm 37:25)
The righteous are never forsaken, and their needs are met.
e) Biblical Example: The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25-34)
Her faith in Jesus brought immediate healing and restoration.
2. JESUS REWARDS OBEDIENCE
Obedience to God’s word always brings divine rewards.
a) Obedience brings blessings (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Those who obey God’s commandments are blessed in every area of life.
b) He rewarded Peter’s obedience (Luke 5:4-7)
Peter obeyed Jesus and caught a miraculous number of fish.
c) Obedience leads to supernatural provision (1 Kings 17:13-16)
The widow at Zarephath obeyed Elijah and never lacked food.
d) God exalts those who humble themselves in obedience (Philippians 2:8-9)
Jesus humbled Himself and was exalted above all names.
e) Biblical Example: Abraham’s Obedience to Sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22:1-18)
Because Abraham obeyed, God made him the father of many nations.
3. JESUS REWARDS SERVICE
Serving God and others is never in vain; Jesus rewards faithful service.
a) God does not forget our labour of love (Hebrews 6:10)
Everything done in service to God is recorded and rewarded.
b) Jesus sees and rewards secret acts of service (Matthew 6:4)
What is done in secret will be rewarded openly.
c) Faithful servants will reign with Christ (Matthew 25:21)
The parable of the talents shows that good stewards receive more.
d) Serving God leads to divine preservation (Exodus 23:25)
Those who serve the Lord will enjoy health and provision.
e) Biblical Example: Cornelius' Devotion and Service (Acts 10:1-4)
His prayers and alms came up as a memorial before God.
4. JESUS REWARDS PERSEVERANCE
Enduring through trials and remaining faithful brings great rewards.
a) He gives a crown of life to those who endure trials (James 1:12)
Those who stand firm will receive eternal rewards.
b) Perseverance produces character and hope (Romans 5:3-4)
Trials shape us for greater glory.
c) He rewarded Job’s patience with double blessings (Job 42:10)
Job endured suffering and was later restored abundantly.
d) Endurance leads to victory (Galatians 6:9)
Those who do not give up will reap in due season.
e) Biblical Example: Paul’s Perseverance and Eternal Reward (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Paul fought the good fight and received a crown of righteousness.
5. JESUS REWARDS SOUL-WINNING
There is no greater work than leading people to Christ, and Jesus rewards it.
a) Soul-winners shine like the stars forever (Daniel 12:3)
Those who turn many to righteousness will be highly honoured.
b) There is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7)
Every soul won for Christ brings joy to heaven and to the soul-winner.
c) The harvest is plentiful, and the labourers are rewarded (Matthew 9:37-38)
Those who labour for souls receive divine reward.
d) He who wins souls is wise (Proverbs 11:30)
Soul-winning is an act of wisdom that brings honour.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus' Reward for the Disciples’ Evangelism (Luke 10:17-20)
When they returned with testimonies, Jesus assured them of heavenly rewards.
CONCLUSION:
Jesus is a faithful Rewarder. He does not overlook the faith, obedience, service, perseverance, and soul-winning efforts of His people. While we may sometimes feel that our work is unnoticed, we must remember that God sees everything and will reward us accordingly.
Let us, therefore, continue in faith, obedience, and service, knowing that our reward is sure. Whether in this life or in eternity, Jesus never fails to honour those who diligently seek and serve Him.
