INTRODUCTION:
The reign of Jesus is eternal, supreme, and unchallenged. From the beginning of creation to the end of time, He remains the sovereign King over all things. Earthly rulers rise and fall, but His dominion is everlasting.
Many people see Jesus only as the Saviour, but He is also the reigning King. His authority extends over heaven, earth, and even the forces of darkness. Every knee shall bow to Him, and every tongue shall confess His lordship.
In this sermon, we will look at five key ways in which Jesus reigns: over creation, over nations, over the Church, over the forces of darkness, and over eternity.
1. JESUS REIGNS OVER CREATION
Jesus is the King of the universe, for He created and upholds all things by His power.
a) He created all things (John 1:1-3)
Jesus is not just a part of creation; He is the Creator.
b) All things exist by His power (Colossians 1:16-17)
The universe is held together by His authority.
c) Nature obeys Him (Mark 4:39)
When Jesus rebuked the storm, the sea became calm.
d) He has dominion over the heavens and the earth (Psalm 24:1)
Everything in the world belongs to Him.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus walking on water (Matthew 14:25-27)
He demonstrated His reign over nature by defying natural laws.
2. JESUS REIGNS OVER THE NATIONS
Kings and governments rule by His permission, but He is the ultimate authority.
a) All authority belongs to Him (Matthew 28:18)
Jesus has been given all power in heaven and on earth.
b) He sets up and removes kings (Daniel 2:21)
No ruler can rise without God’s approval.
c) His kingdom will never end (Isaiah 9:6-7)
Unlike human kingdoms, His rule is everlasting.
d) Every nation will bow before Him (Revelation 15:4)
All nations will acknowledge His supremacy.
e) Biblical Example: Nebuchadnezzar’s Humbling (Daniel 4:28-37)
The king of Babylon learned that God alone reigns supreme.
3. JESUS REIGNS OVER THE CHURCH
The Church is not governed by human wisdom but by Christ, the Head of the Church.
a) He is the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18)
The Church is His body, and He directs its affairs.
b) He builds and preserves His Church (Matthew 16:18)
The gates of hell cannot prevail against His Church.
c) He reigns through His Word and Spirit (Ephesians 5:26-27)
The Church is cleansed and governed by His truth.
d) His reign unites the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-14)
Believers worldwide are under His divine leadership.
e) Biblical Example: Pentecost and the Birth of the Church (Acts 2:1-4)
Jesus empowered His Church by sending the Holy Spirit.
4. JESUS REIGNS OVER THE FORCES OF DARKNESS
Satan and all his demons are subject to the authority of Jesus Christ.
a) Demons tremble at His name (James 2:19)
The power of Jesus’ name makes the enemy flee.
b) He has defeated Satan (Colossians 2:15)
Jesus triumphed over the powers of darkness on the cross.
c) His blood breaks every bondage (Revelation 12:11)
Through His sacrifice, we have victory over the enemy.
d) He has given us authority over the enemy (Luke 10:19)
Believers can exercise dominion over demonic forces.
e) Biblical Example: The Deliverance of the Demon-Possessed Man (Mark 5:1-13)
Jesus cast out a legion of demons, proving His authority over the devil.
5. JESUS REIGNS FOREVER AND EVER
The reign of Jesus is not temporary; He will rule for all eternity.
a) His kingdom is everlasting (Daniel 7:13-14)
Jesus will reign forever, and His dominion shall never be destroyed.
b) He will judge the nations (Revelation 20:11-12)
Every person will stand before His judgment seat.
c) He will establish a new heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21:1-4)
His eternal kingdom will be free of sin, death, and sorrow.
d) His saints will reign with Him (2 Timothy 2:12)
Those who endure with Him will share in His eternal reign.
e) Biblical Example: The Vision of John (Revelation 22:1-5)
John saw the glorious reign of Christ in the New Jerusalem.
CONCLUSION:
Jesus reigns over creation, nations, the Church, the forces of darkness, and eternity. No power can overthrow His throne. His kingdom is not of this world, yet He governs every aspect of existence.
As believers, we must submit to His lordship and acknowledge His rule in our lives. Let us live in obedience to His authority, knowing that His reign is eternal and unshakable.
