GOD-ORDAINED HELPERS FOR YOUR JOURNEY

"So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, ‘Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.’ And he said to him, ‘Go back again, for what have I done to you?’ So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah and became his servant."

INTRODUCTION
No one succeeds in life without the help of others. Even the greatest men and women in the Bible had God-ordained helpers who played crucial roles in their journey. From Moses, who had Aaron and Hur lifting his hands, to Ruth, who found a destiny helper in Boaz, the principle of divine helpers is evident throughout Scripture. These helpers are strategically placed by God to assist, support, and propel His people into their divine assignments.
Many times, people struggle because they lack the right connections. While talent, wisdom, and diligence are important, the presence of the right people at the right time can make all the difference. Joseph needed Pharaoh’s butler to introduce him; David needed Jonathan’s friendship and counsel; and Paul needed Barnabas to be accepted by the apostles. Without these helpers, their journeys would have been much harder, and their destinies might have been delayed.
In this teaching, we will explore the significance of God-ordained helpers, how to identify them, and how to position ourselves to receive their assistance. May the Lord open your eyes to the divine connections He has prepared for your journey.
1. THE PURPOSE OF GOD-ORDAINED HELPERS
Divine helpers are not random acquaintances; they are placed in our lives for specific reasons.
a) To Support and Strengthen – Like Aaron and Hur holding up Moses’ hands in battle (Exodus 17:12).
b) To Provide Divine Connections – The butler introduced Joseph to Pharaoh, leading to his breakthrough (Genesis 41:9-14).
c) To Bring Encouragement – Jonathan strengthened David’s hand in God during his difficult times (1 Samuel 23:16).
d) To Assist in Destiny Fulfilment – Barnabas helped Paul gain acceptance among the apostles (Acts 9:26-27).
e) Biblical Example: Ruth and Naomi – Naomi guided Ruth to her destiny helper, Boaz (Ruth 2:1-3).
2. IDENTIFYING GOD-ORDAINED HELPERS
Not everyone in your life is sent by God; some people may be distractions rather than helpers.
a) They Align with God’s Purpose for You – True helpers push you towards your divine assignment (1 Kings 19:19-21).
b) They Add Value to Your Life – Elisha left his farming business to serve and learn from Elijah (2 Kings 2:9-10).
c) They Strengthen Your Faith – Paul was greatly encouraged by Barnabas (Acts 11:25-26).
d) They Challenge You to Grow – Jesus challenged Peter to walk in his calling (Matthew 4:18-19).
e) Biblical Example: Mordecai and Esther – Mordecai mentored Esther, leading her to save Israel (Esther 4:13-14).
3. POSITIONING YOURSELF FOR DIVINE HELPERS
There are steps to take to attract the right people into your life.
a) Be Faithful in Your Current Assignment – Elisha was busy working when Elijah found him (1 Kings 19:19).
b) Maintain a Humble and Teachable Spirit – Ruth submitted to Naomi’s wisdom and received her breakthrough (Ruth 3:5).
c) Be a Helper to Others First – Joseph helped interpret dreams before his own was fulfilled (Genesis 40:5-8).
d) Pray for Divine Connections – Jesus prayed all night before choosing His disciples (Luke 6:12-13).
e) Biblical Example: Cornelius and Peter – Cornelius’ prayers positioned him for a divine encounter (Acts 10:1-6).
4. TYPES OF GOD-ORDAINED HELPERS
God sends different types of helpers to meet specific needs in our lives.
a) Burden Bearers – Those who help carry your load in difficult times (Exodus 17:12).
b) Destiny Connectors – People who introduce you to your next level (Genesis 41:9-14).
c) Divine Mentors – Those who guide and train you for greatness (2 Kings 2:9-10).
d) Loyal Supporters – People who stand by you no matter the situation (1 Samuel 23:16).
e) Biblical Example: Jesus and His Disciples – The disciples supported and carried out His mission (Luke 9:1-6).
5. OVERCOMING HINDRANCES TO DIVINE HELPERS
Some attitudes and circumstances can prevent you from receiving your God-ordained helpers.
a) Pride and Arrogance – Naaman almost lost his healing because of pride (2 Kings 5:11-13).
b) Lack of Discernment – Some people reject their helpers because they don’t look the way they expect (John 1:46).
c) Wrong Associations – Being connected to the wrong people can block your blessings (Proverbs 13:20).
d) Impatience and Impulsiveness – Saul lost his throne because of impatience (1 Samuel 13:8-14).
e) Biblical Example: Rehoboam and His Advisors – Rehoboam rejected wise counsel and destroyed his kingdom (1 Kings 12:6-11).
6. PRAYING FOR GOD-ORDAINED HELPERS
Divine helpers come through prayer and divine orchestration.
a) Praying for Open Doors – Ask God to bring the right people into your life (Psalm 5:12).
b) Praying Against Destiny Destroyers – Not everyone who comes close is from God (Matthew 13:25).
c) Asking for Divine Discernment – Wisdom is needed to recognise true helpers (James 1:5).
d) Seeking Grace to Serve Well – Many miss their helpers because they refuse to serve (Mark 10:45).
e) Biblical Example: Daniel and King Darius – Daniel’s favour with the king preserved him (Daniel 6:1-3).
CONCLUSION
God-ordained helpers are crucial for fulfilling destiny. They strengthen, guide, and connect us to opportunities that we could not access on our own. Without Elijah, Elisha would have remained a farmer; without Mordecai, Esther would not have become queen; and without Barnabas, Paul’s ministry might have been hindered. Divine helpers are instruments in God's hands, sent to push us towards our purpose.
As we seek to fulfil our divine assignments, may the Lord open our eyes to recognise the helpers He has placed in our path. May we be humble enough to receive their guidance and wise enough to discern their role in our journey. God has already positioned people to help us—may we not miss them in Jesus’ name!
