Isaiah, Part 8
God’s Salvation Causes Our Praise!
Isaiah 11:1-16 and Isaiah 12:1-6
Introduction
- Welcome to Seasons! We are so glad that you’ve chosen to worship with us
- Last week, Ch 10, saw a vivid demonstration of God keeping His promises
-- He will always protect, comfort, and defend those who are faithful to Him
-- Why? Because He spoke it; integrity; in His words we find security & hope!
- Today, is 100% a lesson on faithfulness through the act of worship
-- Those who get my notes will notice a shift in the composition of this message
-- Barely have an outline today … because this is what lives in my heart!
-- So, it is my ask that you’ll forgive me being a little excited about this
- ENCOURAGE: If Chs. 11 & 12 don’t light your fire, then your wood is wet!
- Read Isaiah 11:1-16 and 12:1-6 / Pray
Point 1 – God’s promises for His Messiah’s reign
- The reign of the “branch” of God (v1)
• RE: Will come from the stump (lineage) of David (proph. in Ch 5, 9)
• The spirit of the Lord will be on Him; will have God’s favor; His trust
- His delight (v3) will be in the fear of the Lord – “joy to see God’s will done”
• How does He serve? Hebrew: yirah; reverence and/or awe
• He will judge with righteousness, equity, and the rod of His mouth (words)
• Consider v4: “…one breath from his mouth will destroy …”
• Will be adorned (v5, dressed) with righteousness; faithfulness – core being
• To do what? To give justice to the poor (wronged); to reflect God’s virtue
- He will have a reign of peace (vv6-10) (key word is peace!)
• (In that day) the wolf and the lamb, etc., will dwell together in peace
• A child shall lead them (v8) in showing us ways of peace/security
o Ch 7:14 (virgin birth, Immanuel)
o Ch 9:6 (purpose of His gov’t)
- No harm will come on His holy mountain; RE: Jerusalem is “up”; so is Heaven!
• The Earth will have the full knowledge of the Lord (we shall see Him!)
• The Root of Jesse will stand as a banner; even Gentiles will seek Him (v10)
• His resting place (the New Earth) will be glorious; without blemish/sin
• When? “In the day”: when God is finished waring with disobedience!
- TR: ENC: Stop looking for peace in the world – we will not find it!
Point 2 – God’s promises for the remnant of Israel
- The Lord shall rescue them from harm (v11)
• God will reach out a “second time” (what was the first? Exodus)
• Rescue from where they have been taken into captivity; see the specifics!
• These precise locations doesn’t mean these are the only places (only known)
• APP: He will come to who seek Him, those who desire to be His people
- For what reason? To be restored and govern over the nations! (vv12-16)
• Those outcast and dispersed will assemble from the four corners of the Earth
• The rivalry between Judah and Ephraim (Israel) will cease to exist
• They shall dominate their former enemies (Edom, Moab, Ammon, Egypt)
• There will be a highway for the remnant of His people left from Assyria
- TR: The remnant will be an EXAMPLE of His goodness; a testimony to Him!
-- Obv. Question: Why is this important for us to know and to look forward to?
Point 3 – God’s promises for His people: To be given a Hymn of Praise
- Why? It is because of the salvation God brings (vv1-3)
• Though once angry (sin, rebellion), the Lord will be their source of comfort
• 2 Corin. 1:4, “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
• Philippians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
- He becomes their salvation, strength, or their reason to worship (gives purpose)!
• ENC: Ephesians 6:10, “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
- It is with joy that we will draw from the wells of Salvation (words of Jesus)
• John 4:13-14, “Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
Big Idea - God tells us exactly how to put this into action … (3 things)
1. They will invite others to join in songs of their praise (vv4-6)
• Praise the Lord, call on His name, declare His good deeds, exalt Him!
• (prophet) Joel 2:32, “But everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved, for some on Mount Zion in Jerusalem will escape, just as the LORD has said. These will be among the survivors whom the LORD has called.” Sound familiar?? Paul wrote …
• Romans 10:13, “For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
2. They will sing to the Lord for the excellent things He has done
• Psalm 104:33, “I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!”
• James 5:13, “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.”
- FYI: The bible references singing to God more than 400 times!
• Singing is a way to worship God; Singing is a way to make disciples
• Singing is a way to declare to the world that we are united in Christ
• Singing is a way to communicate with and respond to God
• Not only the things you like, but all things that EXALT His great name!
3. BIG: They will cry out, shout, inhabit Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel!
• Those who are in Heaven will rejoice continually at how incredible He is!
• Revelation 21:2-3, “And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.”
• Consider a world where He is all that matters; why don’t we practice it now?
