INTRODUCTION:

God is not like man who needs sleep or rest. He is ever watchful, constantly attentive to the needs of His children. While humans may grow weary, God never tires or loses focus. This truth gives us confidence that we are always under His divine watch and care. This sermon will explain the meaning of God’s unfailing vigilance and how it applies to our lives.

1. GOD WATCHES OVER HIS PEOPLE CONTINUALLY

God’s protection and care are uninterrupted because He never sleeps.

a) God Keeps His People from Stumbling – He does not allow the righteous to be moved (Psalm 121:3).

b) He Is an Ever-Present Help – He is always there in times of need (Psalm 46:1).

c) His Eyes Are Always on the Righteous – He watches over those who fear Him (Psalm 34:15).

d) He Never Fails or Grows Weary – Unlike humans, God does not experience exhaustion (Isaiah 40:28).

e) Biblical Example:

God’s Faithfulness to Israel (Deuteronomy 31:6) – He neither left nor forsook them throughout their journey.

2. GOD PROTECTS HIS PEOPLE FROM DANGER

Because God is always awake, He is able to shield His children from harm.

a) He Delivers from the Snare of the Enemy – No scheme of the wicked can prevail (Psalm 91:3).

b) The Lord Is a Shield Around His People – His protection surrounds them (Psalm 3:3).

c) He Frustrates the Plans of the Wicked – Evil conspiracies cannot stand against Him (Job 5:12).

d) No Weapon Formed Against You Shall Prosper – The attacks of the enemy are rendered useless (Isaiah 54:17).

e) Biblical Example:

Elisha and His Servant (2 Kings 6:15-17) – God’s angelic army protected them from the Syrian forces.

3. GOD GIVES HIS PEOPLE REST WHILE HE WATCHES

Since God does not sleep, His children can rest in peace.

a) He Gives His Beloved Sleep – Worry is unnecessary when God is in control (Psalm 127:2).

b) The Lord Sustains Us Even When We Sleep – He keeps us through the night (Psalm 3:5).

c) We Can Cast Our Cares on Him – He carries our burdens so we do not have to (1 Peter 5:7).

d) Fear Is Removed When We Trust in God – Knowing He is watching gives peace (Proverbs 3:24).

e) Biblical Example:

Jesus Slept in the Storm (Matthew 8:24-26) – While the disciples panicked, Jesus rested, knowing God was in control.

4. GOD IS VIGILANT AGAINST THE ENEMY’S ATTACKS

Satan is always seeking to attack, but God is always on guard.

a) The Enemy Roams Like a Lion – The devil constantly seeks to destroy (1 Peter 5:8).

b) God Raises a Standard Against the Enemy – He fights for His people (Isaiah 59:19).

c) He Guards Us Against Spiritual Attacks – No evil force can overcome His power (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

d) We Are More Than Conquerors Through Christ – Victory is guaranteed in Him (Romans 8:37).

e) Biblical Example:

Peter’s Deliverance from Prison (Acts 12:5-11) – God sent an angel to rescue Peter while he slept.

5. GOD ENSURES HIS PROMISES COME TO PASS

Since He never sleeps, God is always working to fulfil His Word.

a) God Watches Over His Word to Perform It – His promises will not fail (Jeremiah 1:12).

b) His Timing Is Perfect – He is never late or caught off guard (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

c) What He Has Spoken Will Surely Come to Pass – His Word is settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89).

d) His Plans for His People Will Prevail – Nothing can hinder His divine agenda (Isaiah 14:27).

e) Biblical Example:

The Fulfilment of Abraham’s Promise (Genesis 21:1-2) – Though delayed, God’s promise to Abraham was fulfilled.

CONCLUSION:

The God we serve is always awake, always watching, and always working on behalf of His people. This truth should give us confidence in His protection, provision, and faithfulness. As we trust in Him, we can rest in the assurance that He never slumbers nor sleeps.
