A King is Born
A King is Born—To Reign Forever
Introduction:
This is the final week of our series, “A King is Born.”
Over the past few weeks, we’ve walked through the story of how Jesus entered our world.
We’ve seen that He was born into a dysfunctional family, stepped into a time of chaos, and came to make all things new.
Last week, the children did a marvelous job with their program and Hunter did an exceptional job sharing “A King is Born— The Best Gift Ever.”
But today, we’re not just celebrating a gift—we’re proclaiming a King, born to reign forever.
I want to start by asking you a question: Who sits on the throne of your life?… Whose power do you truly trust?
Because if we’re honest, it’s easy to let the weight of this world, the chaos of life, or the opinions of others take the seat that belongs to Jesus.
It is easy to give into peer pressure, give into fear, or even give in to the lie that we’re in control of everything.
When we let these things take the throne of our hearts, we’re allowing something—or someone—other than Jesus to reign over our decisions, emotions, and ultimately, our lives.
But here’s the thing: only Jesus is worthy of that throne.
Only Jesus has the perfect power to sustain you, the perfect peace to calm your soul, and the eternal purpose to give your life meaning.
So, let me ask you again: Who sits on the throne of your life?
Is it Jesus, the King who reigns forever, or is it something else—something temporary, something fallible, something that will ultimately fail you?
Over 2,000 years ago, in a humble stable in Bethlehem, a King was born… But this was no ordinary King.
The prophet Isaiah declared it long before His arrival:
Isaiah 9:6–7 NLT
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
Let me tell you, Jesus didn’t come to establish a temporary throne or a political regime.
He came to establish a Kingdom that would last forever.
He came not just to reign over nations but to reign in hearts.
He came to carry the weight we could never bear and to bring peace that this world could never give.
This morning, I want to share with you three incredible truths about our King, Jesus.
1. He reigns with perfect power
2. He Reigns with absolute authority
3. He Reigns with eternal purpose.
And my prayer is that you’ll be reminded of the truth that He alone is worthy of your trust and your surrender.
Because when Jesus is on the throne, everything changes!
When Jesus reigns, His power lifts you above the weight of the world, His peace quiets the chaos, and His purpose gives you the confidence to move forward, no matter what.
Let’s Pray!
1. Jesus Reigns with Perfect Power and Peace
1. Jesus isn’t just mighty—He’s almighty.
a. Isaiah uses the title: MIGHTY God— In the Greek, that word means powerful, a warrior, a champion strong and brave!
b. His power is more than just great—it’s perfect, it doesn’t waver, it doesn’t shake, and it’s eternal!
c. Unlike the power of man, which is weak and temporary, Jesus’ power is boundless and everlasting.
d. His power works in our lives, helping us to overcome fear, to break chains of sin, and make a way where there seems to be no way.
e. Isaiah says, “The government will be upon His shoulder,” and that means Jesus is the One who carries the weight of the world— He does it effortlessly!
i. This is what perfect power looks like— a King who bears the weight of the world and never falters.
ii. This means the responsibility of ruling, holding everything together, and guiding the universe rests solely on Him.
iii. Its not on you or me, and It’s not on any politician or world leader.
iv. It’s His responsibility, and let me tell you—It’s NEVER too heavy for Him!
f. Here is the beautiful part… Jesus is not just holding the universe together; He’s stepping into your chaos to bring peace.
i. Where human leaders fail, Jesus’ power never fails!
ii. His reign is unshaken by opposition, untouched by uncertainty.
iii. He’s not just ruling from a distance—He’s deeply involved in your life, balancing the weight of the world with the tender care of a loving Savior.
g. You might be facing something right now that feels impossible.
h. You might be up against circumstances that seem insurmountable.
i. Some of you are sitting here today, feeling like the weight of your life, your relationships, your finances, is too much to handle.
i. But let me remind you: Jesus holds the universe together, and He’s ready to step into your situation right now.
ii. He’s not just out there somewhere distant and far away—He’s right here, ready to bring peace to the chaos you’re facing.
iii. You don’t have to carry the burden of your struggles alone.... It’s on Him!
j. Maybe you’re thinking, “I’ve tried everything. Where do I turn now?”
i. Turn to Jesus! His power doesn’t fail like human power.
ii. His authority doesn’t weaken when things get tough.
iii. You can trust that He will hold you together when everything else feels like it’s falling apart.
iv. He cares about your life, your pain, your journey.
1 Peter 5:7 NKJV
7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
k. So today, if you’re carrying a heavy load—let Him take it.
i. Don’t leave here carrying what He was meant to bear.
ii. Let His perfect power lift you up.
2. His Perfect Power Means Perfect Peace.
a. You see, when we’re caught up in worry, it’s because we forget who holds the ultimate power.
b. We get distracted by the storms of life
c. Think about the things that cause us to worry and fear:
i. financial struggles
ii. health crises
iii. broken relationships
iv. uncertain futures
d. Sometimes these can cause us to forget that the One who holds the universe in His hands is also the One who governs our lives!
e. Think about the things you’re worried about right now.
f. I want you to really focus on them for a moment—whether it’s your job, your health, your family, or your future.
g. Do you remember the story in Mark 4, when Jesus calmed a storm for His disciples?
The Bible says it was evening, and Jesus told His disciples to get into a boat and cross to the other side of the lake.
They obeyed, but soon, a violent storm arose, waves began crashing into the boat, and the boat was filling with water.
And what was Jesus doing?… He was in the back of the boat, sound asleep, with His head on a pillow.
The disciples were panicked. They were in a full-blown crisis.
They woke Jesus up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re about to drown?”
How many of you ever felt that way?… Like life as you know it is at risk of ending horrifically!
But guess what… Jesus didn’t panic.
He didn’t freak out— in fact He didn’t even acknowledge or reply to them.
Instead, He got up, and simply rebuked the wind, and said, “Peace! Be still!” And suddenly, the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:39 NLT
39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.
a. Now, I want you to hear this clearly: Jesus has the power to calm any storm!
b. He doesn’t just have power over the winds and the waves—He has power over the things that bring turmoil to your heart and soul.
i. Now, think about this: The same Jesus that spoke to the winds and waves is the same Jesus you’re serving today!
ii. If He can calm the raging storm with a single word, I want to ask you—What storm in your life is beyond His power?
c. You need to understand this: The same Jesus who told the storm to be still, is still speaking peace over your life today!
d. I don’t know what storm you’re facing right now, but I know this—Jesus is not concerned with how big your storm is.
i. Some of you are sitting here, feeling overwhelmed, maybe even paralyzed by fear.
ii. You’ve got waves crashing in on you, and you’re starting to feel like you’re going under.
iii. But let me tell you something: Jesus is not intimidated by your storm.
e. Maybe it’s a financial storm—you’ve got debt piling up, bills you don’t know how to pay, and you feel like you’re sinking.
i. Or maybe it’s a health storm—the doctors’ reports have been grim, and you’re running out of hope.
ii. It could be a relationship storm—broken trust, hurt feelings, a marriage that feels like it’s falling apart.
f. I’m here to tell you this morning, Jesus doesn’t just speak to storms in the Bible—He speaks to your storm right now!
g. When He says “Peace, be still,” fear loses its grip… Chaos must bow down.... And calm is restored.
h. Now , Let me ask you— what do you need Jesus to calm in your life today?
i. What area of your life feels completely out of control?
ii. What situation is causing you to lose sleep at night?
iii. What’s weighing on you so heavily that you’re starting to feel like you can’t keep going, that you are about to sink?
i. Whatever it is, remember—Jesus is still speaking, 'Peace, be still.'
i. He hasn’t left you, and He hasn’t forgotten you.
ii. He’s waiting for you to call on Him, just like the disciples did.
j. But don’t stop there—have faith.
k. That’s what He asked the disciples: 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'
l. Trust in His perfect power to bring peace to your life and let that faith anchor your heart in Him."
m. The next truth I want to share with you this morning is…
2. Jesus Reigns with Absolute Authority
1. His authority is UNMATCHED!
a. Let me say this loud and clear today: Jesus reigns with absolute authority!
i. This isn’t just a nice idea, a theological statement, or a Sunday school lesson.
ii. This is a living, breathing reality—a reality that impacts every single part of your life, right now.
iii. Jesus reigns with power that has NO rival, NO equal, and NO end.
b. Think about this for a moment—Jesus has authority over EVERYTHING.
i. He holds the universe in His hands.
c. Think about what that means for you.
d. He’s has authority over everything in your life!
i. Over your health.
ii. Over your finances.
iii. Over your relationships.
iv. Every throne, every power, every dominion—He rules over it!
v. Over every single situation you are facing right now.
e. And let me make this clear:
i. His authority is not borrowed.
ii. It’s not temporary.
iii. It doesn’t expire.
iv. It doesn’t come with limitations.
v. It is absolute!
f. In Matthew 28:18, Jesus declared, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Matthew 28:18 NKJV
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
a. That’s not just a Sunday sermon point—that’s the reality we live in.
i. ALL authority—no exceptions, no disclaimers, no “maybe's”— ALL Authority is in His hands.
b. And that means His reign is unshakable.
i. Nothing can stop Him.
ii. No devil, no enemy, no crisis, no situation is able to challenge the authority of Jesus Christ.
c. But here’s where it gets personal: This authority changes EVERYTHING for you and me.
d. There is all kinds of noise in this world:
i. We live in a time where there are so many voices competing for our attention.
ii. The media is pushing its agenda, politicians are fighting for power, celebrities and self-appointed cultural icons are telling us how to think, what to believe, and how to live.
iii. The noise can be overwhelming!
e. But in the middle of all that noise, I want you to remember there is one voice that stands above it all… It’s the voice of Jesus.
i. He is the Creator— He spoke the universe into existence, and He’s the One who can speak peace into your storm today.
ii. He is the Sustainer— He holds it all together, and He’s holding YOU together, no matter what you're going through.
iii. He is the Judge.— One day, He will make every wrong right.
iv. And there’s no power, no authority, no devil in hell, no institution on earth that can rival His authority!
f. You don’t have to be afraid of the noise.
g. You don’t have to be afraid of the chaos.
h. When Jesus speaks, things change!
i. I don’t know about you but that fills me with hope and confidence!
j. When I think about the authority of Jesus—I’m reminded that no matter how loud the noise gets, His voice is stronger. His voice is steady. His voice is final.
2. When Jesus speaks, creation itself obeys His command!
a. In Colossians chapter 1 it says..
Colossians 1:15–17 ESV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
a. In John 1:3 it says…
John 1:3 ESV
3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
a. Creation itself recognizes the authority of Jesus!
b. Think about what we know about Jesus…
i. When He spoke to the storm, the wind and the waves obeyed Him.
ii. When He walked on water, the water recognized its Master and water formed into a solid foundation under His feet.
iii. When He was at the wedding in Cana, He told the servants to fill jars with water, and the very molecules of the water transformed into wine.
iv. When He told Peter to cast the net, the fish knew exactly where to go—they recognized the One who called them by name.
v. When Jesus moved, demons trembled and bowed at His feet!
vi. He healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, created brand-new eyes, and raised the dead.
vii. He caused a fig tree to wither with a word.
viii. And when He faced death itself, death itself bowed to His authority!
c. I don’t know about you, but that makes me want to lean in closer to Him, to trust Him more deeply, and to let His voice be the loudest in my life!
d. There’s no part of your life—not your marriage, your children, your job, your health—that is outside the authority of Jesus Christ.
e. Here’s what I’m asking you today: Do you really believe this?
f. Do you believe that His authority is…
i. Bigger than the chaos of your world?
ii. Bigger than your pain?
iii. Bigger than your problems?
g. And here’s the truth: that same Jesus, with all authority in heaven and on earth, cares deeply about you.
i. He sees you in the middle of the noise.
ii. He knows the chaos you’re facing.
iii. And He’s speaking to you right now—words of life, peace, and power.
h. When you truly get this in your spirit, it’ll change how you face everything.
i. It will give you the confidence to walk through life with your head held high, knowing that the One who holds the universe in His hands, holds your life in His hands too.
3. And I want you to hear this also— Jesus doesn’t share His throne!
a. He’s not up in heaven debating His position.
b. There is no competition for His crown!
c. He’s not trying to get elected!
d. His reign is not up for discussion.
e. NO!…MY Bible says in Revelation 19:16 is says...He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and no one can rival His reign!
Revelation 19:16 NKJV
16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
a. Jesus is not just one king among many.
i. He is THEE King!
ii. See, the kingdoms of this world, rulers face threats, rivalries, transitions of power.
iii. But with King Jesus—there is no resistance to His authority!
iv. His kingdom is established in righteousness and will never be shaken!
b. You can trust that no matter how crazy this world gets, Jesus is on the throne, and His reign is unshakable!
c. So why does this matter to us today?
i. When Jesus speaks, storms calm, chains break, and lives are restored.
ii. It means that no matter what else is happening in the world—no matter how much chaos, division, or uncertainty there is—Jesus is on the throne.
iii. We don’t have to fear that His reign will be interrupted, or that someone else will take His place.
iv. His authority is eternal, and His Kingdom is forever.
d. Right now, there may be things trying to shake you.
i. You may be facing storms.
ii. You may feel overwhelmed by the noise of this world.
e. But hear me today—Jesus is on the throne, and His reign is unshakable
i. You don’t live with anxiety about the future.
ii. You don’t live uncertain about your purpose.
f. So, let me ask you: What are you allowing to challenge His authority in your life?
g. What is it—fear, worry, sickness, anxiety, the world’s noise?
i. What are you are letting have more weight than the voice of the One who commands everything in existence?
h. Listen, you don’t live in fear.
i. You can live in confidence.
ii. You don’t live in anxiety.
i. You can live in peace, because you know that the One who has the authority over everything is on your side.
i. There’s no situation too big for Him.
ii. There’s no storm too strong.
j. And here’s the best part: Under His authority, there is rest.
k. Matthew 11:28 it says,
Matthew 11:28 NKJV
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
i. The world will wear you out.
ii. These battles will drain you.
iii. But no matter how tired you are, no matter how drained, under the reign of Jesus there is peace, there is rest, and there is security.
l. When you understand that Jesus holds all authority, it changes how you face every challenge.
i. You don’t have to live in anxiety about the future or worry about what’s going on around you.
ii. Instead you face every storm, every challenge, every obstacle with a confidence that only comes from knowing that the King of kings is in control.
m. Lastly,
3. Jesus Reigns with Eternal Purpose
(Muscians)
1. Jesus is a King Born to Reign Forever—and His Purpose is Unstoppable!
a. This isn’t just about a baby in a manger.
b. When Jesus was born, the King of Kings entered the world, and His purpose wasn’t temporary, it wasn’t seasonal—it was eternal.
c. What began in a manger is now a kingdom that has no end.
d. This King is not bound by time— He came to reign, not for a season, but forever!
e. His purpose is unstoppable, and it’s moving forward—whether the world sees it or not.
f. Let me ask you something—have you ever wondered if your life really has purpose?
i. Have you ever felt like you're just going through the motions, unsure of where you're headed?
ii. Or maybe you’ve been searching for direction or significance in a world that feels out of control?
g. Here’s the good news: The King who reigns forever—His purpose is not just eternal, it’s personal!
h. And He wants to involve you in that purpose today!
i. His plan for your life, for this world, for His Kingdom—it is bigger than anything we can even imagine.
i. Jesus didn’t come just to be another religious leader, another moral teacher.
j. No, His purpose was much greater than that!
k. In fact, in John 18:37 Pilate asked Jesus if he was a king and Jesus says this is the purpose I was born!
John 18:37 ESV
37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
i. Jesus wasn’t just born to live and die.
ii. He didn’t come to just heal some people, raise some dead bodies, or teach a few good lessons.
a. He came to change the course of eternity!
i. He came with an eternal mission.
b. His purpose was to testify to the truth, to bring salvation, and to establish a kingdom that would never end.
2. His Purpose includes Redemption
a. At the heart of Jesus’ eternal purpose is redemption.
b. His mission, from the very beginning, was to rescue us—to bring us back into relationship with God.
c. His birth in that manger wasn’t just a nice story—it marked the start of the greatest rescue mission the world has ever known.
d. Jesus came to pay the price for your sins, to bring forgiveness, and to restore what was lost.
e. Because He reigns forever, you can know today that redemption is available to you.
f. It’s not just something that happened two thousand years ago—it’s a reality that impacts you right now.
3. His Purpose is Eternal
a. Everything He does is in the context of eternity—from His work on the cross to His promise to return, everything He did is meant to last forever.
b. That’s why we can have hope, even in the midst of all the chaos and confusion in this world.
c. When everything else feels uncertain, Jesus’ eternal reign means we have security.
i. His kingdom is unshakable.
ii. When everything else is shaking, His Kingdom stands firm.
d. And not only that, but because Jesus’ purpose is eternal, your purpose in Him is eternal too.
4. His Purpose Involves Us
a. Your life matters in the grand scheme of eternity.
i. Have you ever thought about that??
ii. Your life matters in ways you may not even realize.
iii. It’s not just about the here and now; it’s about the eternal impact your life can have.
b. Your life matters because God created you with purpose.
i. You weren’t an accident or an afterthought.
ii. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:10 that you are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works that He prepared in advance for you to do.
iii. That means you’re part of His eternal plan—right here, right now.
c. Your life matters because your faith can influence others.
i. The way you live out your trust in Jesus can inspire others to seek Him.
ii. You might never know the full impact of your life on this side of eternity, but make no mistake—your faithfulness has ripple effects that go far beyond what you can see.
d. And your life matters because you were made for eternity.
i. God didn’t just design you for 70, 80, or 90 years on this earth.
ii. He created you to be with Him forever.
e. So, let me ask you again: Have you ever thought about how much your life truly matters?
i. If you’ve been doubting your worth or questioning your significance, I want you to hear this—you are part of God’s eternal story.
ii. Your life has value, your choices have meaning, and your faith has power to change not just your life but the lives of those around you.
f. Jesus desires us— His people, to be active participants in His Kingdom.
i. He’s not looking for passive followers.
ii. He’s looking for active participants in His eternal Kingdom.
g. You’re not just a bystander in His story— You’re a part of it.
i. He’s asking you to make a difference in this world.
h. So here’s the real question: Is Jesus truly King in your heart?
i. Is He really sitting on the throne of your life, or have you let something else take that seat?
j. Today, Jesus is calling you to give Him your full allegiance.
i. He’s not asking for part of your heart or a portion of your life—He’s asking for it all.
ii. Why? Because He gave it all for you.
iii. He went to the cross, bearing your sin and shame, so that you could live in the fullness of His grace, power, and purpose.
Conclusion:
Jesus is the King is Born to Reign Forever.
He reigns with perfect power and peace’ His authority is unmatched, and His purpose is eternal.
When Jesus is truly King in your heart, everything changes.
Your priorities shift, your perspective deepens, and your purpose becomes clear.
