Jeremiah 1:4-10 Lets Go
1. Saying yes to a Call or Lets Go do this
• Christians, have said yes to the call to follow Jesus for centuries .
• Let’s Go that is what Matthews Gospel shares, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
•
2. It’s difficult to Go Jeremiah really didn’t want to say yes he was afraid, he was UN-assure of his abilities, and he was in fear of rejection and perhaps death.
• Jeremiah got some tremendous support from God and we will to if we will Go.
• God said, before I formed you in the womb I knew you.
• God said I consecrated you. God said I appointed you. God said, I send you.
• God said, You shall speak. God said, Do not be afraid … I am with you.
• Moses did want to go, but God told Moses ‘I will be with you’ …” (Exodus 3:12).
• Joshua thought he was to young but God told him, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you” (Joshua 1:5).
• The Jews in exile they felt hopless But God told the exiles “… do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
3. Notice in the texts who is the mover, who is the shaker, who is the one making promises, who is the one who is responsible for Jeremiah’s or our success. God is saying Lets Go We go together us and God
• God was working out a mission for Jeremiah even before he was born. God formed him, God knew him, God consecrated him and God appointed him. God says Jeremiah Lets Go
• God tells us that God knows all about us, and that God has “consecrated” and “appointed” us to do God’s work in the world.
• The apostle Paul says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” Lets Go
• It is all about God. God is the mover and agent in this conversation. God says Lets Go
4. In this call of Jeremiah to Go, notice God makes promises so lets Go
• God tells Jeremiah lets Go and He literally means just that : I am with you “Do not be afraid … for I am with you” (v. 8).
• Jeremiah is afraid he is scared God says this in response to Jeremiah’s hesitation “Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.” (v. 6). He sounds scared.
• Gods response to Jeremiah’s Hesitation God doesn’t buy this “I am only a boy” routine.
• God says, : “Do not say, ‘I am only a boy,’ for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. No need to be afraid I am with you
5. What if folks did not have the Lets Go attitude
• What if Moses did not go down to Egypt and demand that the pharaoh let God’s people go.
• What if David had not confronted the giant Goliath.
• What if Mary had declined to be the “handmaid of the Lord” (Luke 1:38, KJV).
• What if The disciples told Jesus that they liked their careers as fishermen and tax collectors.
• What if All the volunteers in your community suddenly up and quit.
• What if Everyone — people like you and me — refused to get off the couch, saying, “Please, my Lord, just send someone else.” I don’t have the :lets go attitude today
6. If we say Yes to our Call God will say I will take care of the Ifs
• If God asks us to speak, God will give us the words. I am with you Lets Go
• If God asks us to dig a hole, God will give us a shovel. You’ve trained for this moment, now seize it with all your heart.” Lets Go
• If God gives us a nail, God will provide a hammer. “The harder you work, the luckier you get.” Lets Go
• If God asks us to love, God will give us compassion. Believe in yourself, for you hold the power to make the impossible possible. “Let’s Go
• If God asks us to lead, God will provide the followers. You were born to rise, not just to survive.” . So church lets Go “You’ve trained for this battle. Now go out there and claim victory.” All these quotes came from coaches to inspire their teams to victory.
