Marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, and it is built on the foundation of love, trust, and mutual respect. However, when a husband treacherously deals with his wife, it is a serious offense against God and His divine order. In this sermon, we will explore how God deals with a treacherous husband, using biblical examples and scriptures.
Malachi 2:14-16 - The Treacherous Husband
The book of Malachi specifically addresses the issue of treacherous husbands. In Malachi 2:14-16, God says:
"You have wearied the Lord with your words... You ask, 'Why?' It is because the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. Has not the Lord made them one? In body and spirit they are his. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth."
Consequences of Treachery
The Bible is clear about the consequences of treachery in marriage. In Proverbs 6:32, it says, "But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself." Similarly, in 1 Corinthians 6:18, it says, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body."
Biblical Examples
There are several biblical examples of treacherous husbands who faced God's justice. Here are a few:
1. David and Bathsheba: David's treachery against his wife Michal and his adultery with Bathsheba had severe consequences. Nathan the prophet confronted David, saying, "You have despised the Lord's word... You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and taken his wife to be your own" (2 Samuel 12:9-10).
2. Ahab and Jezebel: Ahab's treachery against his wife and his idolatry led to his downfall. Elijah the prophet confronted Ahab, saying, "You have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord" (1 Kings 21:20).
3. Herod and Herodias: Herod's treachery against his wife and his adultery with Herodias led to the death of John the Baptist. Jesus said, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife" (Mark 6:18).
Conclusion
God takes treachery in marriage seriously, and He will not hesitate to bring justice to those who commit such offenses. As husbands, we must remember that our wives are our partners, our friends, and our sisters in Christ. We must treat them with love, respect, and kindness, just as Christ treats His bride, the church.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we pray for husbands who have been treacherous to their wives. We ask that You bring conviction and repentance to their hearts. Help them to see the error of their ways and to turn back to You and to their wives. Restore their marriages, and bring healing and forgiveness to their relationships. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
