As Christians, we are called to live a life of love, humility, and kindness. However, we often encounter individuals who embody the opposite qualities such as arrogance, prideful, pathological liers, manipulators, toxic and negative people and those who desire for revenge. In this sermon, we will explore biblical wisdom on how to explore interactions with such people.
The Dangers of Engaging with the Arrogant
Proverbs 16:18 warns, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." When we engage with arrogant individuals, we risk being drawn into their web of pride and haughtiness. Their inflated sense of self-importance can be contagious, leading us to compromise our values and principles.
Moreover, arrogant individuals often refuse to listen to reason or consider alternative perspectives. As Proverbs 18:2 states, "A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion." Engaging with such individuals can be frustrating and fruitless, as they are more interested in promoting their own agenda than in genuinely listening to others.
The Futility of Seeking Revenge
When dealing with vengeful people, it's essential to remember that revenge is not our responsibility. Romans 12:19 states, "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.'" Seeking revenge can lead to a cycle of retaliation and escalation, causing harm to ourselves and others.
Instead of seeking revenge, we are called to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44). This doesn't mean we have to tolerate abusive or toxic behavior, but rather that we should respond in a way that is gracious, forgiving, and humble.
The Wisdom of Avoiding Confrontation
In some cases, it may be wise to avoid confrontation with arrogant and vengeful individuals altogether. Proverbs 20:3 states, "It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling." By avoiding confrontation, we can prevent unnecessary conflict and protect ourselves from the negative consequences of engaging with toxic individuals.
In conclusion, as Christians, we are called to live a life of love, humility, and kindness. When dealing with arrogant and vengeful individuals, we must be wise and discerning. By avoiding confrontation, refusing to engage with pride and haughtiness, and leaving revenge to God, we can maintain our integrity and witness, even in the face of challenging relationships.
Prayer
