INTRODUCTION:

The story of Lazarus in John 11:44 highlights the power of Jesus to resurrect the dead and bring liberation. Even after Lazarus was brought back to life, he remained bound in graveclothes until Jesus commanded, "Loose him, and let him go." This command emphasises that God not only gives life but also delivers from every form of bondage. Many people today are alive physically but are bound spiritually, emotionally, or mentally. This sermon will address the realities of spiritual bondage, the need for deliverance, and how God’s power can release us into freedom and fulfilment.

1. UNDERSTANDING SPIRITUAL BONDAGE

a) What is Spiritual Bondage?

Spiritual bondage refers to any situation where a person is held captive by forces of darkness, sinful habits, or generational curses, preventing them from fulfilling their God-given destiny.

b) Causes of Spiritual Bondage:

Bondage can arise from sin, ancestral covenants, curses, ignorance, or satanic manipulation (Proverbs 5:22).

c) Signs of Spiritual Bondage:

Stagnation, repeated failures, chronic illnesses, financial struggles, and unexplainable delays can indicate bondage.

d) The Role of Jesus in Deliverance:

Jesus is the ultimate deliverer. His mission was to set the captives free (Luke 4:18).

e) Biblical Example: The Woman Bound for 18 Years (Luke 13:11-13)

Jesus delivered her from her infirmity, proving His authority to set captives free.

2. THE POWER OF JESUS TO DELIVER

a) Jesus Breaks Chains:

Jesus has the authority to break every chain of bondage and captivity (Isaiah 10:27).

b) The Role of Prayer in Deliverance:

Prayer is a powerful weapon to destroy strongholds and open the doors of freedom (Acts 16:25-26).

c) Faith as a Key to Deliverance:

Faith activates God’s power to deliver. Without faith, deliverance is impossible (Mark 9:23).

d) The Power of the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to overcome bondage and walk in liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17).

e) Biblical Example: Peter’s Release from Prison (Acts 12:5-10)

The prayers of the church caused the angel of the Lord to release Peter from prison, showing the power of intercession.

3. STEPS TO TOTAL FREEDOM

a) Identify the Bondage:

Acknowledge the areas of bondage in your life and bring them before God (Psalm 34:17).

b) Confess and Renounce Sin:

Sin gives the enemy legal ground. Confessing and renouncing sin breaks his hold (1 John 1:9).

c) Engage in Spiritual Warfare:

Use the Word of God, prayer, and fasting to fight against the forces of darkness (2 Corinthians 10:4).

d) Walk in Obedience:

Obedience to God’s Word ensures that you maintain your deliverance (Deuteronomy 28:1-2).

e) Biblical Example: Lazarus’ Deliverance (John 11:44)

Lazarus needed help to remove his graveclothes after Jesus resurrected him, showing the importance of spiritual support in maintaining freedom.

4. GOD’S PROMISES OF DELIVERANCE

a) God’s Power to Break Chains:

God promises to release captives from every form of bondage (Psalm 124:7).

b) Divine Intervention in Difficult Situations:

No matter how impossible it seems, God can intervene and turn things around (Jeremiah 32:27).

c) Restoration After Deliverance:

God not only delivers but also restores everything the enemy has stolen (Joel 2:25).

d) Assurance of Victory in Christ:

Through Christ, we are guaranteed victory over every enemy (Romans 8:37).

e) Biblical Example: Israelites’ Deliverance from Egypt (Exodus 14:13-14)

God opened the Red Sea to deliver the Israelites from Pharaoh, showing His power to release His people.

5. PRAYERS FOR RELEASE AND FREEDOM

a) Praying Against Spiritual Captivity:

Prayer is essential in breaking the chains of spiritual captivity (Acts 16:25-26).

b) Declaring Freedom in Christ:

Speak and declare your freedom in the name of Jesus (Galatians 5:1).

c) Invoking the Power of the Blood of Jesus:

The blood of Jesus destroys yokes and sets the captives free (Revelation 12:11).

d) Engaging in Persistent Warfare Prayers:

Persistence in prayer ensures total victory over the enemy (Luke 18:1-8).

e) Biblical Example: Paul and Silas’ Deliverance (Acts 16:25-26)

Through their prayers and praises, God caused an earthquake to set them free.

CONCLUSION:

Deliverance is not just about being set free; it is about stepping into the purpose and blessings God has prepared for you. Through faith, prayer, and the power of Jesus, every chain can be broken, and every closed door can be opened. Today, God is ready to release you and let you go into your destiny. Align yourself with His Word, engage in spiritual warfare, and watch as His power manifests in your life.
