Jesus Turns things Around John 2:1-11
1. In the Gospel of John there are 7 miracles Jesus did
· The first miracle of our Lord is the changing of water into wine (2:1-11).
· The second sign is the healing of the nobleman's son (4:46-51).
· The third sign is the healing of the paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda (5:1-9).
· The fourth miracle is the feeding of the five thousand (6:1-14).
· The fifth miracle is Jesus walking on water in a storm (6:15-21).
· The sixth miracle is the healing of the blind man (9:1-7).
· The seventh miracle is raising Lazarus from the dead (11:1-44).
2. In the text today is a joyful event that almost becomes disastrous for the host.
· At the marriage at Cana, something went quite wrong. it was a social disaster: The wine ran out.
· It is thought that the sacred laws of hospitality require a host to keep pouring out the wine, liberally, until all the guests have had enough?
· It would have been an embarrassment to the family if there was no wine
3. Jesus, the disciples. And Mary were invited to a wedding in Cana
· Mary the mother of Jesus said, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to me and to you?[a] My hour has not yet come.”
· Mary told the folks there 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
· 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water He commands the servant to take the six stone jars lined up against the wall — jars typically used to hold the water used for washing hands and feet upon entering the house, according to the law. This would have made about 300 gallon of wine
4. Miraculously The water turned to wine
· 8 He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the person in charge of the banquet.” So they took it.
· 9 When the person in charge tasted the water that had become wine and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), that person called the bridegroom
· 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
5. Jesus turns things
· He turned the bride and grooms special day into a day never to forget miraculous day
· He turned possible failure of a host into total awesome successful Host everybody is still talking about it today
· Jesus can turn hatred into love. Paul hated Christians but after his conversion he loved the Christians
· Jesus can turn sorrow into joy. He healed the Nobles man’s son John 4 46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. 50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.
· Jesus turn the lamed into the leaping paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda waiting to jump in after an angel stirred the water but Jesus stirred the water and stirred the paralysis
· Jesus can turn sinners into saints
· Jesus turns death into life he is the resurrection.
· Jesus turns people who feel meaningless to people who feel they matter.
· Jesus turns blindness into seeing Jesus turns bondages into deliverances
· Today Jesus wants to turn us from a fan to a follower
