So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Exodus 33:11
Imagine you're in Moses' shoes for a day. During the day, judge people, and at night, rush to speak with God face to face. Moses was in this routine for many years, finishing the day and rushing to speak and spend time with God at night. Moses, like Adam, had a garden of Eden kind of experience where God would come in His Glory every day at a specific time. It was a more better experience than Adam because Moses was able to speak with God face to face and spend prolonged time with God. What a wonderful and fascinating life Moses led. He met and saw God every day. He had a dedicated place to meet God.
Every day, he lived with the surety or assurance that God would come in the night, and he would meet God and speak to him face to face. What a joy that he was able to meet God on a daily basis. I talk to all prophets through visions or dreams, but I speak with Moses face to face. This was God's testimony about Moses. It is a tremendous blessing to speak with God face to face. No amount of blessings or money can compare to the privilege to see and speak God face to face every day.
Every day, Moses would finish his tasks and rush to meet God in the tent of meeting in the night. It is written that when Moses entered the tent, God would come immediately. People were astonished by what happened outside the tent (clouds, thunder) when Moses entered the tent, but Moses was more interested in seeing and speaking with God face to face. Moses was waiting for the night to see God, and God was also waiting for Moses to enter the tent of meeting. Maybe God, like Moses, was waiting to see Moses. Maybe God was waiting for Moses to enter the tent of meeting so that he could come immediately.
This was the relationship that Moses had with God. Every day, God and Moses looked forward to spending time together. Both God and Moses were longing for each other’s company every day. It is also written that when Moses entered the tent, God came immediately. There was no struggle for Moses to invite, speak to God, and there is no resistance for God to come. God came with or without invitation. The atmosphere was saturated with God. God came immediately. Moses had a place where there was no struggle to speak(or pray) to God, and God would come immediately. It's like Moses prayed for less than a minute (in the tent) and God showed up. God did not require an invitation to come, and He came because of their relationship.
In our prayers, sometimes we pray for two hours and God comes in the last ten minutes; the first hour and a half was spent preparing for God to come. In Moses’s case, he did not have that struggle, and as soon as he entered the tent, God came. Perhaps Moses had prepared the entire day to meet God, so there was no struggle.
People were amazed by the clouds and thunder, but Moses was unconcerned of these external displays of God’s Glory because his only purpose was to see God's face. Perhaps Moses spent all day preparing to meet with God at night. If he had entered God's presence with sin, he would have been destroyed. Every day throughout the daytime served as a preparation time for meeting God at night. While judging and interacting with people, he maintained a holy life because he needed to meet God at night. For many years, his life revolved around two things: living a holy life and preparing for the night to meet God. Perhaps he always had a thought in his mind that if he entered God's presence with sin, it would be his last day.
After spending 40 days on the mountain with God, Moses built the tent of meeting. He recognised that after spending 40 days with God was not sufficient to know God, and there is still much to know about God, so he created a tent of meeting where he could meet God on a regular basis. God was real and living for him.
Moses lived every day expecting to see God at night, so he prepared during the day to meet God in the night. He did not spend just one hour or 10 min, but spent an entire night with God. He had a place where he could meet God and God would come every day. He had a place that met God's standards, where God could come in all His glory and stay for a long time. The place can accommodate God in all His glory. Imagine yourself in Moses' shoes: God comes to you every day, and how do you prepare and plan for it.
In your years of christian life, do you have a place where you can meet with God on a daily basis? Do you have a place where you can see God face to face? Do you have a place where God can come in all his glory and stay for a long time? You have received God's blessings and favour, yet you still do not have a place where you and God can meet. When was the last time you met God? If you don't have a place, God is not real and living for you. People have big balances but still have no place to meet God.
It is not a physical place, but rather a place or time where God can come with all His Glory. If you don't have a place to meet with God on a daily basis, ask the Holy Spirit to help you construct one. Desire to live like Moses for one day, with expectation or assurance that God would surely come in the night to speak to you. How lovely our lives will be: preparing the day to meet God at night and finally meeting God at night.
