Message on Psalm 91: God’s Shelter, Protection, and Promises
Good Morning
Stand with me and lift your bible and repeat after me.

I am what it says I am.
I can do what it says I can do.

Today I will learn more of the word of God.
The indestructible, never ending, living word Of God.
I will never be the same.

Before you sit down, say good morning to your brothers and sisters.
Open your Bibles to Psalm 91 and say, “Amen” when you are there.
Psalm 91 is a passage of profound assurance and comfort.
Known by many as the "Psalm of Protection," it reminds us of God's power to shield us from every kind of threat, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional.
This psalm invites us into a life of trusting God as our refuge, showing us that in every moment of danger or uncertainty, we can find peace and protection under His care.
1. God’s Shelter (Verses 1-2):
"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." (Psalm 91:1)
The psalm begins with an invitation to "dwell" with God, to make His presence our home.
This isn’t just a quick visit; it’s a place where we are meant to live continuously.
When we make the choice to dwell in His shelter, we gain the gift of resting in His shadow, a place of divine covering where His presence brings peace.
In God’s shelter, we can say confidently, "He is my refuge and my fortress."
Life’s battles may rage around us, but our heart can remain still and safe, knowing He is our protector.
Think of a child in a storm, frightened by the wind and rain, yet feeling safe and calm in a parent’s arms. This is the kind of security we find in God.
Are we choosing to trust and abide in Him, finding our refuge in His embrace?
2. God’s Protection (Verses 3-8):
This part of the psalm speaks directly to the many kinds of dangers we face – illness, violence, hidden snares, and even spiritual attacks.
But in each case, God’s protection is promised. “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings, you will find refuge.”
God doesn’t promise we won’t encounter challenges, but He does promise to be with us through them.
When life feels overwhelming, God is our shield. Under His wings, we can find shelter, and in His presence, we discover strength to face what comes.
Several years ago, a friend of mine went through a frightening battle with cancer. During the darkest days, when fear threatened to overtake her, she found Psalm 91.
She prayed these words each day, and she began to experience peace even in the middle of pain. She later shared that she truly felt God’s protection over her life. And while her path wasn’t free from suffering, she came to know God’s presence in a new and powerful way.
Today, she shares her story with others, testifying of God’s faithfulness and how He met her in her hour of need.
God’s protection is real. In every season, even in trials, He invites us to lean on Him.
3. God’s Angelic Guardians (Verses 9-13): "For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways..."
This psalm shows us that God’s protection is comprehensive. He even commands His angels to watch over us. God is not only near us Himself; He sends His angels to shield us and to provide protection beyond what we can see or understand.
This assurance reminds us that we are surrounded by a heavenly host. God sees every step we take and is committed to our safety, in body and in spirit. He is always a prayer away, and His protection surrounds us.
4. God’s Promise and Assurance (Verses 14-16):
In these final verses, God speaks directly, saying, "Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name."
This is a personal promise. When we love and seek God, when we call upon His name, He promises to be with us, to rescue us, and ultimately to satisfy us with salvation.
His promise extends beyond our immediate concerns; it assures us of eternal life and hope beyond this world.
God does not promise us a life without pain, but He does promise His constant presence. When we surrender our hearts to Him, He leads us through life’s darkest valleys and shows us His salvation.
Today, Psalm 91 invites us into a place of refuge. God is offering each of us His shelter, His protection, and His promises. But to experience this fully, we must choose to place our trust in Him, to make Him our dwelling place.

Perhaps you've been walking through difficult battles and have felt afraid, uncertain, or even hopeless. God wants you to know that you’re not alone.
His arms are wide open, and He is ready to be your refuge.
And if you’ve never fully surrendered your life to Christ, if you’ve never made Him your Savior and Protector, this is your moment.
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from sin and to offer us eternal life. Jesus took on the weight of our sin and conquered death so that we could know God’s love and salvation.

"Lord Jesus, I come to You today, acknowledging that I need You. I want to make You my dwelling place, my refuge, and my Savior. I confess my sins, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins and rose again, offering me new life. I open my heart to You now, Lord, and I invite You to lead me and protect me all the days of my life. Thank You for Your love, Your protection, and Your promise of salvation. In Jesus' name, Amen."
