James 5:13-20 “THEY SHOULD PRAY”
1. Just Because we Pray, James tells us what can happen
• For those who are suffering their sorrow can be removed
• For those who are Cheerful They should sing songs of praise
• For those who are Elders they should Pray
• For those who are sick anoint them and the prayer of faith those who are anointed will be healed
• For those who have committed sin pray and they will be forgiven
• For those who have committed sin confess it and it will be forgiven
•
2. Results of People in prayer In the Bible,
• Where ever Abram journey he prayed and God blessed Him but do find where Lot went he prayed. We read where Abram went he built an alter.
• Hannah prayed for a child, and later gave birth to Samuel.
• Job in His distress Job prayed J20At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart.C The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."
• Elijah prayed for rain, and rain came.
• Daniel prayed for forgiveness of forsaking God although he did not sin but hear his words. . 3So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. 4I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: " 5we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 6We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7" this day we are covered with shame--the men of Judah and people of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you. 8O LORD, we and our kings, our princes and our fathers are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. 9The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving,
3. What do we pray for? Everything, what should we pray about?
• We should pray about one’s suffering,
• We should pray for illnesses
• We should pray for folks who do not know The Love of God
• Now “the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective” (v. 16) —
4. And what do these prayers do?
• They remind me that I am not alone,
• Prayer helps us to know that I am deeply connected to God
• Prayer reminds me that God is near.
• We may ask Do my prayers change God? I don’t think so. But they do change me, and
• Prayers do change my experience and my relationship to God.
• prayers reflect my dependence on God
5. Know not every prayer will bring deliverance but the prayer will bring a positive outcome
• Paul prayed for deliverance from the “thorn” in his side, and instead was given grace to endure it.
• Jesus prayed for the “cup” of His looming torture and crucifixion to pass from Him; it didn’t happen.
6. They Should Pray
• The suffering, the elders, the sick, the sinner, they all should pray.
• Those like Abram journeying in this old world they should pray.
• Those like Job in the hours of crisis, loss, brokenness, they should pray.
• Those like Daniel and the folk there in who lost their faith in God they should pray.
