Summary: Can manifestations of evil attributed to the Holy Spirit be blasphemy of Him?

Since blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is attributing the miracles of Christ as coming from the devil could the converse be true as well? Much of what we see in hyper-Charismatic circles are clearly unbiblical manifestations.

People clucking like chickens, barking like dogs, hissing like snakes. acting as if they are drunk on alcohol, being levitated and flipped in a chair, and many other things that would make the unbeliever and unlearned think there is insanity involved are being attributed to the Holy Spirit.

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Nothing in the fruit of the Spirit would indicate that He would induce convulsions or pain as He was filling someone. Indeed, if one falls as one dead there would be no movement. Note the meaning of temperance.

20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Everyone knows from observation or experience what people act like when drunk by alcohol. The next three verses show what it is like to be filled with the Spirit. Far different than being Budweiser or Jack Black drunk.

Indeed, we are commanded to be sober. Several words are translated as sober and none would give a reason to condone bizarre actions of any kind.

I am sure there are other verses I could bring to bear on the issue, but these are what came to mind first. I believe that with just these few we can safely consider that what we see be done in name of the Spirit is at best grieving, quenching and resisting the Spirit of God and at worst blaspheming Him by making Him appear to contradict what He is shown to be in Scripture.

He is not a sideshow act nor the ringmaster of the bizarre. Indeed, while Cessationists may not speak of Him as much as they should Charismatics focus mainly on Him and His gifts instead of His mission to the World and ministry to the Body. He did not come to speak of Himself and Jesus is supposed to be the focus. Both groups may be grieving Him for their lack of balance.

Hyper-Charismatics are in grave mortal danger with their teachings and satan laughs knowing this. We must warn all who are involved in this travesty. It may well be too late for the leaders in this movement, but there are poor souls deceived by the show and the hope of having needs met. Pray for them and pluck them from the fire. Maranatha!

Jud 1:21  Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

22  And of some have compassion, making a difference:

23  And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
