THE WONDER AND BEAUTY OF JESUS' NAME
I. THE WONDER - WHO IS THIS JESUS?
1. We are naming The Person, the Christ (Messiah), the Son of God, the Word, God become flesh, in Whom is all authority and power, risen from the dead and alive for evermore.
2. Jesus said “I am the Alpha and the Omega, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” ~ Revelation 1:8
II. THE WONDER OF HIS NAME - Isaiah 9:6 - One of the most profound Messianic Prophesies of the Scriptures: This prophetic insight unveils essential characteristics of God.
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6
1. HIS NAME WILL BE CALLED… (Names given in O.T. to God distinguishing His Person and Character)
A. The meaning and power of ‘name’
1. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken
those who seek You. (Psalm 9:10)
2. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among me by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
2. HIS NAME IS WONDERFUL…
A. God full of wonder…
1. Wonderful - “a marvel, a miracle, or a wonderful thing,” “beyond understanding” (NIV)
2. Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! (Psalm 107:8)
4. O LORD, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, For You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. (Isaiah 25:1)
3. HIS NAME IS WONDERFUL COUNSELOR
A. The Source of all wisdom and knowledge
1. Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! Amen. (Romans 11:33)
2. In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3)
4. HIS NAME IS MIGHTY GOD – (powerful warrior, champion; God-hero)
A. Victorious God of battles
1. Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, invincible in battle. (Psm 24:8)
5. HIS NAME IS EVERLASTING FATHER
A. The Father of eternity
1. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. (Psa 90:2) {everlasting = vanishing point}
2. Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. (Isa 40:28)
6. HIS NAME IS PRINCE OF PEACE
A. Real peace is found in Jesus Christ
1. Peter preached ‘peace through Jesus Christ’; to house of Cornelius; (Acts 10:36)
2. Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, (2 Pet 1:2)
B. The way of peace is found in surrender to the will and ways of Jesus Christ.
1. Jesus Himself is our peace ~ Ephesians 2:14
