And David wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the [c]hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” 2 Samuel 11:15
When a man of God is living in sin, he is more dangerous than Satan. Run away from a man of God who is living in sin; he is extremely dangerous. King David was living in sin for about a year, and during that time, he killed (indirectly) an innocent Uriah. David went to the extent of killing another person to cover up and hide his sin. Imagine how much hard his heart has become as a result of sin. He broke one of the 10 commandments, "You shall not commit adultery" for his sin and then broke "You shall not commit murder" to conceal his sin. In order to hide and cover up his wrongdoing, he murdered an innocent man. A king who was supposed to protect his people and army, he himself killed an innocent person. Sin changed King David's heart from loving people to loving himself.
Knowing and seeking God will lead you to live a holy life and love others. If you are spending more time seeking God and your love for people is fading, then there is something wrong with your seeking God. Knowing and seeking God produces a holy life and love for others.
King David thought that by killing Uriah, he could cover and hide his sin, but there is an omnipresent God (present everywhere) who is omniscient (knows everything), omnipotent (all-knowing), and omnibenevolent(all-loving). Everything David did was visibly seen by God. We think that the omnipotent God was silent, but no He was patient with David so that David would repent. God waited for David to repent of his sin for about a year, and when he did not, he sent His own prophet. Never hide or try to cover your sin since it might lead you to a chain of more sins to hide it. David did a lot of things to hide his sin.
David lived in sin for about a year, but after Nathan rebuked him, he repented and came back to God. But unnecessarily innocent, faithful and humble Uriah was killed. Uriah blindly trusted David because of his reputation and position, without discerning his intentions and motives. Uriah worked hard and had a good reputation at work, yet he died as a result of David's grave sin. Uriah’s only mistake was blindly believing David. For David’s sin, simple Uriah had to die.
In this generation , there are lot of David’s (men of God who are greatly used by God) who are living in sin, because of which many Uriah’s lives are being destroyed or spiritually killed. Their faith, calling and purposes are being destroyed. Many Uriah’s have even become spiritually handicapped and abandoned their calling. These Uriah’s are even manipulated and used to cover up the sinful mistakes and agenda of the man of God. Man of God will repent and come back to God. However, for Uriah, it has a significant negative impact which can even destroy their career and future.
Many people in this land have been in Uriah's state; they were not killed, but they have lost years, careers, vision, and calling as a result of man of God's sinful agenda and propaganda. Though a man of God is mightily used by God with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and has a great reputation, do not blindly believe him. There is only one person whom you can blindly trust and believe in: that is Jesus and not anyone else.
Check everything with the word of God. If something comes from a man of God that contradicts God's word, stay away from that agenda and propaganda.
You need to be wise to identify whether its Godly agenda and God’s agenda. Goldy's agenda focuses on the outward state, such as infrastructure and money, whereas God's agenda is concerned with the condition of our hearts, land and people. God's agenda will build God's kingdom, while Godly agenda will build man of God's empire. Always discern whether it is a Godly agenda or God's agenda.
Don't judge a man of God if he is living in sin, but you should safeguard yourself with such a man of God. Judgement is God’s part, but you keep yourself safe.
Since God revealed to Prophet Nathan David's sinful state, and he was able to detect it. For Uriah, it was really difficult. Uriah lacked spiritual discernment and did not have a direct relationship with God, therefore he was unable to recognise King David's sinful living and wicked intentions.
To protect yourself from becoming like Uriah, here are some pointers to check while serving a man of God:
1) Frequently ask God about the spiritual state of the man of God
2) In a season when kings go to war, David remained at home. When a man of God does things out of place, be careful
3) If the love of people fades away from the man of God, be careful.
4) If there is a hidden agenda of money making, lust or any earthly gain, stay away from him
5) Ask the Lord for ability to discern things.
6) Are the dealings of the man of God holy and according to the word of God?
If you, like Uriah, have lost your career, vision, or calling as a result of a man of God's sinful agenda, there is a good news: What the locusts have eaten, God will restore double fold. Where you were have fallen, there God is going to restore you double fold. You must first repent of - believing a man of God more than God, and then repent of carrying out the man of God’s sinful agenda.
Note: This article is not intended to say anything negative about any man of God. This article is for those Uriah’s whose lives have been negatively impacted by man of God’s sinful propaganda.
