As believers, we can find comfort and assurance in the promise that God’s protection never fails. In Psalm 125:2, it is written, “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.” This verse reminds us that God’s hedge of protection is always around us, shielding us from harm and keeping us safe in His loving care.
The concept of God’s hedge of protection is woven throughout the Bible, from the Psalms to the Prophets and into the New Testament. In Job 1:10, we read, “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his flocks and herds are spread far and wide.” This verse highlights God’s sovereign protection over Job’s life, even in the midst of trials and tribulations.
In Psalm 91:4, we are reminded that God’s protection is like a shield, covering us from the snare of the enemy: “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” This promise echoes the words of Jesus in Matthew 23:37, where He longs to gather His people under His wings, just as a mother hen gathers her chicks.
The hedge of God’s protection is not just a physical barrier; it is also a spiritual one. In Ephesians 6:10–18, Paul reminds us to put on the full armor of God, including the shield of faith, to quench the fiery darts of the enemy. This spiritual armor is our defense against the schemes of Satan, and it is strengthened by our faith in God’s unfailing protection.
In times of uncertainty and fear, we can find peace in the promise that God’s hedge of protection never fails. As Psalm 46:1–3 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
May we rest in the assurance of God’s unfailing protection, knowing that His hedge surrounds us always, keeping us safe in His loving care.
