Psalm 125 The Unmovable Mountain
I. The Stability of God’s People -
Their Distinction - 1 They that trust in the Lord (and rely on the Lord)
Their Description - shall be as mount Zion,
Their Dominion - which cannot be removed,
Their Duration - but abideth for ever.
II. The Strength of God’s People -
It's Course - 2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem,
It's Source - so the Lord is round about his people
It's Force - from henceforth even for ever.
III. The Struggle of God’s People -
Their Partition - 3 For the rod of the wicked -
Or the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land of the righteous,
Their Protection - shall not rest upon
Their Provision - the lot of the righteous;
Their Prevention - lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity
IV. The Standing of God’s People -
The Request - 4 Do good,
The Respect - O Lord,
The Recognition - unto those that be good,
The Revelation - and to them that are upright in their hearts.
V. The Stillness of God’s People -
The Sinners - 5 As for such as turn aside
The Sin - unto their crooked ways,
The Sovereign - the Lord
The Separation - shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity:
Or the Lord will banish with the evildoers. - “Lead them forth”:
Eternal rather than temporal judgment seems to be in view.
These have been on the side of the Lord and have turned away to crooked ways like the people around them.
The way of the wicked and the fallen away is the same.
The Satisfaction - but peace shall be upon Israel.
