Psalm 119:89 - 96 Lamed - An Ox Goad
1. The Permanence of God's Word - 89-91
A Sovereign Word - 89 For ever, O Lord,
A Sacred Word - thy word
A Settled Word - is settled,
A Secured Word - in heaven.
2. The Preeminence of God's Word
To All Peoples - 90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations:
In All Places - thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
At All Periods - 91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances
For All Purposes - for all are thy servants. Psa. 76:10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.
3. The Prevention of God's Word - 92
It's Solution - 92 Unless thy law
It's Satisfaction - had been my delights, (My chief delight)
It's Salvation - I should then have perished in mine affliction.
4. The Power of God's Word,
It's Light - 93 I will never forget thy precepts
It's Life - for with them thou hast quickened me.
It's Love - 94 I am thine, save me;
It's Liberty - for I have sought thy precepts.
5. The Protection of God's Word -
The Description - 95 The wicked,
The Detection - have waited for me,
The Destruction - to destroy me:
The Discretion - but I will consider thy testimonies.
6. The Perfection of God's Word - 96
Man's Perfection is limited - 96 I have seen an end of all perfection:
God's Perfection is not - but thy commandment is exceeding broad.
John Gill "the word of God is a large field to walk and meditate in;
it is sufficient to instruct all men in all ages, both with respect to doctrine and duty,
and to make every man of God perfect; it has such a height and depth of doctrine
and mysteries in it as can never be fully reached and fathomed, and such a breadth as is not to be measured: the fulness of the Scripture can never be exhausted;
the promises of it reach to this life, and that which is to come;"
