Psalm 84 GOD'S HOUSE
Psalm written by David while in exile from the rebellion of Absalom.
I. HIS DELIGHT - 1 How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!
Because of -
God's Purchase - thy tabernacles - 1 Peter 1:18 forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
God's Purpose - John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (Marriage)
Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
God's Presence - thy tabernacles - God's dwelling place
God's Presidence - O Lord of hosts
II. HIS DESIRE
His Aspiration - 2 My soul longeth,
It's Intensity - 2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth
It's Integrity - for the courts of the Lord:
It's Entreaty - my heart and my flesh crieth out
It's Intimacy - for the living God.
His Expectation - For God to hear, God to heal, & God to help.
8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah
His Estimation - 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
His Past Privilege - 10 For a day in thy courts
His Present Predicament - is better than a thousand.
His Personal Preference - I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
Psa. 27:4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.
His Perverse Position - than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
III. HIS DEVOTION - 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself where she may lay her young, even thine altars O Lord of hosts my King, & my God
It's A Place For -
The Worthless - 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house
Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
The Wayward - 3 and the swallow a nest for herself (A Home)
He flies away in the Autumn and returns in the spring.
The Weary - swallow a nest for herself,“nest”
Matt 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
The sparrow and swallow are small and keenly aware of their needs
The Weak - 3 where she may lay her young,
Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
The Willing - 4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah
IV. HIS DETERMINATION -
I. To Prize God's Presence - 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
A. By Service - I had rather be a doorkeeper
B. By Surrender - in the house of my God, - "my God"
C. By Separation - than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
II. To Prove God's Provision - 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
His Presence - 11 For the Lord God is a sun
His Protection - 11 For the Lord God is a shield:
His Provision - the Lord will give grace and glory:
And His Plenty - no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly
III. To Proclaim God's Promise -
12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
