Psalm 52 Doeg
I. The Boasting Man - 1-4 His Words
i. Divide - 2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs;
ii. Deceive - 3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
iii. Destroy -2 like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
The Tongue of Doeg: was proud ("boasted"); perverted ("deceitful");
painful ("like a sharp razor").
iv. Devour - 4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
II. The Beaten Man - 5-7 His Wounds - God Will
i. Ruin Him - 5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever,
It Will Happen - Powerfully, Personally, Publicly, Painfully.
ii. Remove Him - 5 he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place,
and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
iii. Reveal Him - 6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
iv. Rebuke Him - 7 lo this is the man that made not God his strength;
but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. The Termination of Doeg: was swift (pluck); shameful (laugh at him);
severe ("destroy . . . forever").
III. The Better Man - 8-9 His Worship
i. The Contrast - 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God
ii. The Confidence - 8 I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
iii. The Confession - 9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it:
iv. The Continuance - 9 and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
