Psalm 42:1-11 “Dealing with Discouragement”
I. The Psalmist's Adversity
i. David Was Oppressed From Without - 9 I will say unto my rock, why hast thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
“OPPRESS” means - to feel pressure, or the weight of distress
By Talking - 10 while they say daily unto me,
By Taunting - 10 where is thy God?
By Tearing - 10 As with a sword in my bones,
By Testing - 10 mine enemies reproach me
ii. Oppressed From Within -
5 Why art thy cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me?
11 Why art thou cast down, Oh my soul, and why art thou disquieted within me?

The Cure For Discouragement -
11 for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
(a) Vision - for I shall yet, (b) Victory - for I shall yet praise him,
(c) Vindication - who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
II. The Psalmist’s Anxiety
1. It Affected Him Physically
i. His Eyes - 3 My tears have been my meat day and night.
ii. His Eating - 3 My tears have been my meat (food) day and night.
iii. Expression 11 who is the health of my countenance, and my God
2. It Affected Him Spiritually
9 I will say unto God my rock, why hast thou forgotten me.
III. The Psalmist’s Activity
His Discernment
i. His Perception - 11 who{God} is the health of my countenance, and my God.
The Lord alone can heal us Physically, Mentally & Spiritually.
and He can heal a broken, depressed spirit.
ii. His Prayer - 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar
His Discipline - 5 & 11 Why art thy cast down, O my soul? And why art thy disquieted in me? He talked to Himself.
