THE SHEPHERD’S LORDSHIP - “The LORD….”

It is possible to know Him as Saviour and not as Shepherd.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

THE SHEPHERD’S RELATIONSHIP - “The LORD is my shepherd.”

LOVE - Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

LIFE - John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

LIGHT - 1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

LIBERTY - John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

LIVING - Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

THE SHEPHERD’S LEADERSHIP - v.2 “He leads”; v.3 “He leads.”

2 he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: The Lord has - led in the past, is leading at present, and will lead in the future.

“Saviour, like a Shepherd lead us, much we need Thy tender care.”

THE SHEPHERD’S PARTNERSHIP - “I shall not want ….

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures ….. SATISFACTION

2 he leadeth me beside the still waters .... SUBMISSION

3 He restoreth my soul: ... SALVATION

3 he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness ... SANCTIFICATION

5 thou anointest my head with oil; ... SEPARATION

THE SHEPHERD’S GUARDIANSHIP - 4 I will fear no evil:

i. He Guards us in Dangerous Places: “the valley,”

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Isa 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee

and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:

when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;

neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

ii. He Guards us from Dangerous People: “my enemies.”

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies

This Shepherd is our God, our Guide and our Guard.

THE SHEPHERD’S COMPANIONSHIP - 4 for thou art with me;

It was the valley experience that drew him closer to the Shepherd and now he is no longer talking about his Shepherd using “He”,

but he is speaking directly to the Shepherd saying, “Thou.”

THE SHEPHERD’S FELLOWSHIP -

6 and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:2-3)
