I. WE CAN TRUST IN THE LORD - 1 In the Lord put I my trust:

a. FAITH must have an OBJECT - In the Lord

b. FAITH must have a SUBJECT - put I - God saves individuals

c. FAITH must have a PROJECT - “In the LORD put I my trust”

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. “ Matthew 7:21

II. WE CAN TURN FROM THE WICKED

1 how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? 2 For lo, the wicked bend their bow . . .” Well, who are the wicked?

i. A Definition of the wicked.

The righteous are trusting in Jesus Christ, the wicked are not.

ii. A Demonstration of the wicked.

Their Task - 2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow,

Their Treachery - they make ready their arrow upon the string,

Their Target - that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

a. Their counsel is PRESSING (Urgent, Forceful, Impulsive)

1 how say ye to my soul, Flee - Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion

b. PRACTICAL (Logical, Reasonable) Flee as a bird to your mountain

c. PERVERSE - 2 “For lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string”

d. PRESUMPTUOUS 2. That they may privily shoot at the upright

e. PLENTIFUL - It doesn’t matter what the majority says.

III. WE CAN TRIUMPH OVER EVIL

a. We Can Rest in His Person - 4 The Lord is in his holy temple,

God is HERE - 4 The Lord is - Immanuel which means “God with us.”

God is HOLY - The Lord is in his holy temple,

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all

God is HIGH - the Lord’s throne is in heaven: 4 his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

b. Rest in His Plan - 5 The Lord trieth the righteous:

but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

i. His Plan for the Righteous “The Lord trieth the righteous”

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,

ii. His Plan for the Wicked - 5 but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. 6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Brimstone is sulfur - @ 248 degrees sulfur melts,

@ 482 degrees sulfur turns fierce red, @ 832 degrees sulfur boils

c. Rest in His Provision - 7 For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright
