Psalm 6:1-10 Power in Prayer
I. The Contrition in Prayer - (1-3)
David's Cry - 1 O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD.
The Demeanor of Suffering - rebuke me not in thine anger,
The Depth of Suffering - 2 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
Physically - I am weak, Emotionaly - my bones are vexed
Spiritually - 3 My soul is also sore vexed:
The Duration of Suffering - 3 but thou, O Lord, how long?
II. The Concern in Prayer -
4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.
i. The Presence of God - Return, O LORD,
ii. The Power of God - deliver my soul
iii. The Praise of God - oh save me for thy mercies' sake.
III. The Conviction in Prayer -
5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Death is Sure - 5 For in death
Death is Silent - there is no remembrance of thee:
We must seek Him - In Time, In Truth, In Trust, In Triumph.
Death is Settled - in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Ecc.9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
IV. The Confession in Prayer - (6-7)
i. He was Weary - 6 I am weary with my groaning;
ii. He was Weepy - 6 all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
iii. He was Weak - 7 Mine eye is consumed because of grief;
it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
V. The Consolation in Prayer - (8-10) He speaks of:
A. Faith - 8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
B. Fortitude - 9 The LORD hath heard my supplication;
the LORD will receive my prayer.
C. Favour - 10 Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
