As Christians, we are aware of the spiritual realm and its influence on our lives. However, sometimes we may fail to recognize the subtle signs of demonic dominance in ourselves or others. Scripture reveals that the Holy Spirit thinks and knows (1 Corinthians 2:10), can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30), intercedes on our behalf (Romans 8:26-27), and makes decisions according to His will (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). As the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit is fully God and capable of fulfilling the roles of Comforter and Counselor that Jesus promised (John 14:16, 26; 15:26).
This Sermon aims to expose the habits and behaviours that indicate a person is under the influence of evil spirits. In Matthew 12:43-45 and Luke 11:24-26, Jesus warns us about the danger of an unclean spirit returning to a person, finding the house empty, and bringing seven worse spirits to inhabit it. This passage teaches us that a life without the Holy Spirit is a vulnerable and dangerous one.
Signs of Demonic Dominance
1. Anger and Irritation: Uncontrollable outbursts, constant frustration, and a short fuse can be indicative of an evil spirit's influence.
2. Murmuring and Complaining: Constant negativity, grumbling, and dissatisfaction can be signs of a discontented heart, opening the door to demonic influence.
3. Boiling in Arrogance: Pride and haughtiness can lead to a sense of self-importance, making one vulnerable to demonic manipulation.
4. Addictions: Tobacco, cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, and perversion can all be signs of bondage to evil spirits, leading to destruction and chaos.
5. Bad Websites and Cheating: Engaging in immoral online activities and dishonest behavior can indicate a loss of control and surrender to dark forces.
6. Lying and Manipulation: Deception and manipulation of others can be signs of demonic influence, leading to broken relationships and distrust.
7. Womanizing: Sexual immorality and objectification of others can be a symptom of a deeper spiritual issue, allowing evil spirits to gain a foothold.
8. Feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, and struggling to find purpose.
9. Lacking motivation and energy, with a sense of burnout.
10. Struggling with self-doubt and trust issues.
11. Experiencing intrusive, negative thoughts and emotions.
12.. Feeling stuck or tempted to revert to old patterns.
13. Revisiting past emotional wounds or unresolved issues.
14. Grappling with self-criticism, guilt, and shame.
15. Feeling disconnected and struggling with belonging.
16. Questioning one's beliefs, values, and sense of identity.
17. Feeling uncertain or confused about one's path forward and many more
These habits and behaviours are not just moral failings, but indicators of a deeper spiritual struggle. If left unchecked, they can lead to spiritual bondage and destruction. It is crucial to recognize the signs of demonic dominance and seek help through prayer, counselling, and spiritual guidance. Break free from the grip of evil spirits and walk in the light of God's love and redemption.
Signs of the Holy Spirit's absence:
1. Lack of spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23)
2. No desire for prayer, study, or worship
3. Self-centeredness and worldliness
4. Sinful patterns and bondage
5. Lack of love, joy, and peace
If you identify with any of these signs, it's a wake-up call to seek the Holy Spirit's presence in your life. Don't be a house left empty, vulnerable to the enemy's attacks.
Repent, invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in you, and:
1. Seek spiritual disciplines (prayer, fasting, study)
2. Practice spiritual fruit (love, joy, peace)
3. Walk in obedience to God's Word
4. Seek accountability and community
5. Pray for the Spirit's filling and empowerment
May we not be like the unclean spirit, returning to a life without the Holy Spirit. Instead, let us be filled with His presence, bearing fruit and bringing glory to God. Seek the Holy Spirit today and walk in His power and guidance. Amen.
