And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you loosing it?’ thus you shall say to him, ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’ ” Luke 19:29-31
The Lord needed a donkey, which no one ever sat on. In Israel, donkeys were used to carry people and workloads. No one has ever sat on it, means that the donkey was unused, or had no previous experience of carrying people. The donkey was young, inexperienced with carrying people, and had been tied for some time. Jesus specifically sent his disciples to bring this young, unused, and inexperienced donkey to be a part of His great plan. The donkey itself might be surprised that why Jesus chose him. There were so many experienced donkeys, but Jesus still chose this unused and inexperienced donkey.
This was the first time this inexperienced donkey had carried a person, and that person is the son of God. The one who carried all of humanity was carried by a donkey for one day. What a privilege. Who would ever thought that Jesus would sit on a donkey and that too on an inexperienced donkey? If the donkey’s mouth were opened – it would also have praised God like “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”. It was the donkey's first time finding work, and it was a marvellous experience. The donkey had one glorious day to remember in his entire life.
Jesus was so merciful that he chose a young, inexperienced, unused donkey to sit on. Jesus needed a young, unused, and inexperienced donkey rather than an experienced one. Our inexperience and weakness attracts God to include us in His plans. All of God's chosen vessels, whom He used mightily, were initially weak, young, and inexperienced vessels. If you are saying that- you are weak, unworthy, inexperienced, and don’t have the ability to do God's work, then you are the right person for God to use. God is searching for you. God uses donkeys more than the lions. God used a donkey to save Balaam.
An inexperienced donkey could have made Jesus' journey uncomfortable. However, Jesus did not complain and instead used it as part of His plan for His Glory. The donkey had no prior experience or training to carry people. It was not trained by a mentor or a master. However, God chose the donkey knowing that His journey would be uncomfortable. Jesus sacrificed his comfort to make the donkey part of his plans. Jesus endured the shortcomings of using an inexperienced donkey in His plans. Despite the donkey's inexperience of carrying people, Jesus still sat on it. Jesus did not complain but sat peacefully on the donkey.
When God uses weak and inexperienced vessels in His plans, He sacrifices his comfort and endures the shortcomings of the vessels while continuing to use them. Sitting on an inexperienced donkey was uncomfortable, yet Jesus took the uncomfortable route to make the donkey part of His plans. God sacrifices His comfort to include us in His purposes, bears our shortcomings, and still uses us.
In the end times, God is searching for many donkeys in every city and nation that He may use for one day, season, or minute to sit comfortably and carry out his plans. Do you want to be God’s end-time donkey? Plead with God. Your lack of experience or ability to do God’s work does not matter to God. Only prepare a place in your heart where Jesus can comfortably rest and carry out his plans.
