LESSON 4; PRAYER OF PETITION
1. Introduction
In lesson 2 and 3, we learnt about 15 different kinds of prayer listed below;

Today we will study the prayer of petition as we focus mainly on the courts of Heaven.
This prayer is very effective especially when you are facing the most impossible situation in your life.
SCRIPTURE;
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: vs15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him
Isaiah 43:26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
Psalm 82:1 God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods.

2.PRAYER OF PETITION
Definitions for the word petition
a) A formal request
b) A formal request to a sovereign to take some action
c) A formal request addressed to a person or a group in authority asking for a grant or benefit
d) A formal application in writing made to a court requesting judicial action
e) You research the bible then build a case
The Hebrew words for “petition” are
a) shelah or mishelah, meaning
b) ask, beg, lay to charge, consult, demand, desire earnestly inquire, pray, request, require or wish.
The word petition is usually associated with the law.
a) We can only present our petitions before God’s Throne if we stand on legal ground.
b) Isaiah 43:26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
c) Our petitions will only be granted if we find favour in God’s sight.
d) The use of petitions is a very effective form of prayer and warfare.
e) Petition gets the quickest results in the most imposible looking situation.
3.WHAT LEGAL GROUND DO WE HAVE?
1 john 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: vs:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Let’s look at our rights that gives us confidence to approach God for Petition:
OUR RIGHTS – LEGAL GROUND - CONFIDENCE
1) We have the right to approach God the Father boldly to pursue an intimate relationship with Him. Hebrews 4:16, I John 4:15
2) We have access to the Table of the Lord through His blood that provides our healing,our deliverance from oppression of Satan, for provisions of material goods, for peacewithin and without, for victory in all our battles, for the gifts of the Spirit. This table is Communion or also known as the Lord’s Supper Luke 22:19-20; John 6:51
3) We have the authority to take our dominion position in the Kingdom of God and establish the will of God in the earth—in our realm or sphere of influence. Genesis 1:26;Psalm 8:6; James 3:7
4) We have the right to present our petitions and decrees in the Court of Heaven to enforce and bring to pass the plans and purposes of God our Father in the earth and inour sphere of influence. Isaiah 1:18; Luke 18:1-8
5) We have authority and power over ALL the power of the enemy. Luke 10:19
6) We have access to all the weaponry of the Kingdom to subdue the enemy. The Name of Jesus and the blood of Jesus. Jeremiah 50:25; Eph 6:12
7) We have the right to apply the blood of Jesus to every situation we face that is contrary to the Word of God. Revelation 12:11
4. THE PURPOSE OF THE COURT OF HEAVEN
What is the purpose of the Court of Heaven?
1) The Court of Heaven is where justice is meted out.
2) It is where God judges situations in personal lives and in nations and cities. He is theJudge of the Earth and He issues judgments based on the arguments set forth in the Court of Heaven.
3) In the Court of Heaven justice is determined, mercy is found and the wrath of God is poured out and Satan is able to destroy lives or he is stopped cold.
4) The Court of Heaven is where breakthroughs come for believers. The issues of justice that come forth are directly related to us as individuals.
5. THE LANGUAGE OF THE COURT
What is the language of the Court?
It is all based on God’s eternal Law—the Word of God—the Bible. Justice is measured against the Word of God and the standards He has set forth for the world to operate in.
The arguments that Jesus puts forth as our Intercessor are based on the Word, the plans in our book and the state of our heart, which He can see.
The arguments, petitions and accusations that Satan puts forth are also based on the Word of God.
a) He points out the failures to meet those standards of behavior.
b) The petitions he brings can result in permission to attack; like what happened to Job and countless others.
c) He demands permission to sift believers like wheat.
d) He can do nothing except God grants permission.
e) God has to grant permission if there is no intercessor praying for a person, situation or even a nation OR there is no repentance by a person, city or nation.
6.THE HEAVENLY COURT
The Court of Heaven is a real place where believers can access the justice of the Most-High God. It is the place where breakthroughs happen.
The heavenly court system is known by other names in scripture:
a) Divine council…….Psalm 82:1
b) Counsel of El (God)…..Job 15:8
c) The council of Yahweh……Jeremiah 23:18
d) Council of the holy ones……Psalm 89:7
I'd like to define divine 'council,' and divine 'counsel.'
a) When a group meets together like an administrative, advisory, or legislative body for discussion and advice, we call this grouping, a council.
b) So, when the heavenly court is in session, the members of the court form a body called the 'divine council.' ……COMPOSITION
c) But, when these members of the divine council listen to the Lord's message and engage in discussion, the members are hearing God's advice and wisdom?His 'divine counsel.'……..ADVICE

THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE COURT OF HEAVEN
Who are the participants in the Court room?
a) In every court room, there are several participants.
b) Courtrooms are very busy places!
Below, I will list some of the members of the divine council:
1. God, ELOHIM
God the Father, Yehovah—the Creator – God the Father is the Judge of the Universe. He is sovereign over all His creation. He can do absolutely ANYTHING He wants with His creation. He can even destroy if He chooses to. He did it once that we know of in the flood of Noah. Genesis1:1 says “ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Jesus Christ, Our Advocate – Jesus is our advocate with the Father.
I John 2:1 says “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
The Holy Spirit – The precious Holy Spirit is everywhere. He is in our hearts and He is also in the heart of God who sits on the throne in the Court. He helps us to pray in accordance with the PERFECT will of God because He KNOWS the perfect will of God. That is why praying in the Spirit is key to getting victory! Romans 8:26 says “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” The Holy Spirit is ALWAYS with us because He lives big on the inside of us!
He is the power behind our faith!
2. Angels
Cherubim and the Seraphim,
Michael….MINISTER OF DEFFENCE
Gabrielle, …INFORMAION AND BROADCASTING
The Holy Angels – the angels are also in the court room awaiting the good verdict for us.
a) When God hands us the good verdict, the angels are assigned to work it out for us.
b) Angels are sent to do warfare in the heavenlies against Satan’s kings and princes.
c) They are sent to bring messages and
d) They are sent to work in the circumstances of our lives to bring about the good verdict. "The Lords has established His throne in heaven and His kingdom rules over all.
Bless the Lord, you his angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of his word. Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure" (Psalm 103:19-21).
e) Angels freely execute the judgments of God echoed in heaven after we decree what God has spoken to us on the earth.
f) After a decision or judgment is made in heaven, a member of the divine council either serves as a divine messenger to announce the decision of the council, or an angel will come to execute the divine judgment.
3. The cloud of witnesses: the apostles, prophets and saints of old
4. The prophets that are alive on the earth, and believers. AMBASSADOR
Blood-bought Christians – As blood-bought believers in Jesus Christ, WE play an integral part of the court room activities! We are the only human beings allowed into the Court room.
An unbeliever cannot go there until they are washed in the Blood of the Lamb. God’s immigration policy into the Kingdom is very simple. Accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ or go into the lake of fire. There is no illegal immigration in the Kingdom of God. But we are now sons and daughters of the Most High and as such, we are told to come boldly to His throne of Grace for help in times of
trouble.
a) Hebrews 4:16 says “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
b) 2 Corinthians 6:18 says “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty. Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
We are also a royal priesthood who can actually come and minister to the LORD in our prayers and our worship.
a) I Peter 2:9 says “ But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people, that you may PROCLAIM the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
As priests and kings of the Most High, part of our duties in the Kingdom IS to go regularly to the Court of Heaven and make decrees and declarations, petitions and intercessions for the earth realm--our sphere of influence. He expects us to make a difference in our world!

Satan—the Adversary – Satan is in the Court of Heaven day and night the Bible says. Revelation 12:10 says “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God
day and night, has been cast down.” The ONLY thing Satan can do is con you into believing a lie. He is the father of lies. He accuses us on three fronts:
1) when we fall into sin and don’t repent. He puts a temptation before you and tries to convince you that God won’t mind. He’s “down” with your sinful lifestyle. You’re special. When you fall for it, he immediately goes to make a case against you in the Court of Heaven. Unrepentant sins bring judgment. If you don’t repent and put it under the blood of Jesus, it is hanging out there for Satan to use against you at an opportune time.
2) Doubt and unbelief. One of Satan’s primary strategies is to convince you that God is holding out on you.
That God’s motives are evil towards you. That He loves everybody BUT you. He sets circumstances up that seem to add weight to his argument. When we fall for it, he watches us as we withdraw from the Lord. The further we back away, the stronger his case against you gets.
3) The words of our mouth. The Bible clearly states that life and death are in the power of the tongue. You WILL eat the fruit of your lips whether you believe it or not. Satan listens to our words. When we say things that are negative and full of doubt and unbelief, he grabs those words to use against us.
Once he has prepared his case against you, he goes to the Court of Heaven and presents it. If he makes the case, he can attack you.
7.THE THRONE ROOM….A GLIMPSE OF THE THRONE
Apostle John sees God, sitting on the throne
a. Revelation 4:1-11…WORSHIP
b. Revelation 5 to Rev 8…COURTROOM
c. setting remains the same (the very throne of God),
d. The scene changes to a courtroom that releases judgment.
e. Same place, different times
In the throne room John sees and refers to each member of the Trinity.
a) Firstly..God as…. "One sitting on the throne" (Rev. 4:2).
b) Secondly, “seven burning lamps” …symbolize the Holy Ghost (4 v. 5).
c) Lastly…Jesus Christ (Rev. 5)….as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the great overcomer.
d) Father,Son and Holy Ghost, in the throne room!
8.ACTIVITY IN THE THRONE ROOM
The divine council room, also called the heavenly court, is situated in the Throne Room.
THE RESULTS OF COURT ROOM ACTIVITY
What are the results of all this court room activity?
a) Breakthroughs! The Court of Heaven is where breakthroughs happen.
b) The enemy is bound, people and situations are loosed and God is glorified through it all!
c) The Court of Heaven is a very active place because there are petitions,decrees and declarations being spoken day and night by the people of God who know about the Court of Heaven AND how to operate in the Court.
d) keep bombarding the Court with your petitions; keep declaring the Word over your family and over your life in every area!
e) For us as believers, the Court of Heaven is VITAL to our spiritual warfare efforts down here.
We must learn to operate there and we can only do that when we KNOW Him intimately. When we are confident in His motives towards us and when we know His Eternal Law—the Bible like the back of our hand, we will begin to see breakthroughs happen. The Court of Heaven truly is where breakthroughs happen!
9.THE HEAVENLY COURT SYSTEM
a) We are called to make heavenly decrees or kingly judgments as His ambassadors
b) Failing to accept our responsibility to make the decrees that God has spoken hinders angels from intervening in our lives.
c) We should stop making unrighteous judgments,
d) i.e looking at situations through human eyes.
e) Until we make righteous judgments and decrees about situations, God cannot release the true breakthroughs we desire!
The power of the prophetic decree,
"You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. You will also declare or decree a thing and it will be established for you so your light will shine on your ways. 'When they cast you down and you declare.'
When they cast you down and you make a decree and say, 'Exaltation will come!' then God will save the humble person and He will even deliver the one who is not innocent" (Job 22: 27- 29).
10. EXAMPLES OF PRAYER OF PETITION
A.HANNAH
I Sam 1:17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
Eli calls Hannah’s prayer before the Lord a petition.
a) Hannah cried to the Lord,… in vs 15 and 16,
b) She poured out her soul before the Lord.
c) She spoke or brought her petition before the Lord out of her great complaint and bitter provocation.
d) To petition, your soul must be poured out to the Lord.
e) It is a cry from your heart.
In verse 27 we see Hannah was granted her petition by the Lord!
a) She has found favour in His sight!
b) The favour of the Lord comes upon those who cries from the heart to Him (Ps 20: 4-5; Ps9:12).
B. ADONAIJAH
We see also Adonaijah, son of David, petitioning Bathsheba,seeking her influence with Solomon (I Kings 2: 13-18).
C. ESTHER
In the book of Esther, she put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace, close to his throne room.
a) The king was on his throne.
b) When the king saw her, she obtained favour in his sight.
c) The King then asked what her request and her petition was
d) The king told her that whatever it might be, it would be granted her (Esther 5: 1-8; 7: 2-3; 9:12).
D.THE CHURCH
a) We also put on the royal robe of Righteousness.
b) We have the legal right to do this by our faith in Christ Jesus.
c) Then we enter His Throne Room. Because of what Jesus had done,
d) we can come with boldness right into the very Throne Room of God and not stand outside (Esther 5:1)!
E.THE APOSTLES…ACTS 4. 13-33
Praise be to God! We can come before the King of Kings! We know we have found favour in His sight when we come,purified by the Blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
We need to search our hearts and confess all known sin.
All sin connected to the petition also needs to be brought under the Blood of Jesus.
Here standing in for sin committed by our ancestors is also very important - Ps 24: 3-4.
11.THE COMPONENTS OF THE PRAYER OF PETITION
In petition you should also spend time repenting,thanking,praising and worshiping the father before you start asking
Coming to the Court of Heaven without coming through repentance and cleansing in the Blood of Jesus is a waste of time. The Court is for those people whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life and those who have faith in Him and their rights as children of God to come boldly to His throne of grace.
a) Gives you access to His presence
b) Gives you clarity in hearing him speak
c) Destroys the evidence that your accuser has against you
The Prayer of petition is not just a prayer that you wake up and say what’s in your head
a) Take time to research the bible,
b) Locate the scriptures,
c) Put it in writing then you
d) Present it to God.
12.STEPS TO WRITING A PETITION
1.Our petitions start with a declaration of Who our God is. …grtitude
• Our God is the God of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
• God the Father, God the Son and God the HolySpirit, etc.
This declaration is like a trumpet call in the heavenlies. In
• Numbers 10:9 we see that a trumpet call causes God to remember us
• This causes His favour and grace to shine upon us.
• This we truly need to have victory over the enemy.
2. The next step is to state the legal ground we stand on as we discussed earlier.
3.Now we can state our specific request.
This can be for marriage, children, salvation of a loved one, protection during a certain time, finances, spiritual break through and growth, memories to surface,or any roots hidden that blocks God’s fullness in my life.

FATHER, I COME BOLDLY TO THE COURT OF HEAVEN—YOUR THRONE OF GRACE IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH. FATHER I COME TO PETITION THE COURT FOR A BREAKTHROUGH IN MY LIFE CONCERNING ___________________________,
FATHER, YOU HAVE SEEN THIS SITUATION FROM EVERY ANGLE AND YOU KNOW THE BEGINNING FROM THE END.
FATHER, I REPENT FOR ANY DOUBT AND UNBELIEF IN MY HEART AND FOR ANY WORDS I HAVE SPOKEN THAT HAVE HINDERED MY BREAKTHROUGH. I ASK YOU TO FORGIVE ME FOR DOUBTING YOUR ABILITY AND YOUR MOTIVES TOWARDS ME. I BELIEVE THAT YOU LOVE ME AND THAT YOU WANT TO GIVE ME VICTORY OVER _________________________. I PLACE THESE SINS ON THE ALTAR AND ASK THAT THE BLOOD OF JESUS BE APPLIED.
FATHER, NOW IN FAITH, I BELIEVE AND I GIVE YOU THANKS FOR THE VICTORY AND THE GOOD VERDICT THAT YOU ARE ISSUING IN THIS PETITION. AS YOUR WORD SAYS “IT IS YOUR GOOD PLEASURE TO GIVE ME THE KINGDOM!”
I THANK YOU AND BLESS YOUR HOLY NAME AND ASK ALL THESE THINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS, WHO IS THE AUTHOR AND THE FINISHER OF MY FAITH!
2. PETITIONS FOR VICTORY AGAINST ENEMY ATTACKS
FATHER, I COME BOLDLY TO THE COURT OF HEAVEN ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD AND I COME IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH—YESHUA.
FATHER, THE ADVERSARY HAS ATTACKED MY LIFE IN THE FOLLOWING AREA(S) ___________________________
FATHER, I PETITION THE COURT FOR THE GIFT OF DISCERNING OF SPIRITS AND AN IMPARTATION OF WISDOM TO SEE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS ATTACK.
FATHER, I ASK FOR REVELATION KNOWLEDGE OF ANY SIN IN MY LIFE AS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS ATTACK IN THE NAME OF JESUS. (IF UNKNOWN SIN)
FATHER, I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOUR WILL FOR MY LIFE. I CONFESS THAT I HAVE SINNED BY _________________________. I REPENT FOR THESE SINS AND ASK YOUR FORGIVENESS. FATHER, I REMIND YOU THAT OUR COVENANT SAYS THAT MY ENEMIES ARE YOUR ENEMIES. I PETITION THE COURT FOR THE HOST OF HEAVEN TO ROUT ALL OF THE ENEMIES RANGED AGAINST ME TODAY IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS!
SATAN, YOUR ASSIGNMENT AGAINST ME IS CANCELED. YOU HAVE NO MORE LEGAL GROUND BECAUSE I HAVE REPENTED AND MY SINS ARE GONE! I BIND YOU AND COMMAND YOU TO GET YOUR HANDS OFF ____________________! VICTORY IS MINE IN JESUS’ NAME!
3. PETITIONS FOR LIFE AND DEATH SITUATIONS
FATHER, I COME TO THE COURT OF HEAVEN IN THE NAME OF JESUS AND ON THE BASIS OF HIS SHED BLOOD. I BRING THIS LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION TO THE THRONE OF GRACE FOR HELP IN THIS DIRE SITUATION.
TELL HIM THE SITUATION: _______________.
FATHER, I PETITION THE COURT FOR THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT TO FLOW THROUGH ME FOR THIS SITUATION. USE ME O LORD TO BRING VICTORY TO THESE CIRCUMSTANCES IN JESUS’ NAME!
FATHER, REVEAL ALL SIN THAT THE ENEMY HAS LEGAL GROUND TO USE AGAINST ME. I REFUSE TO HAVE SIN IN MY LIFE THAT WOULD HINDER WHAT YOU WANT TO DO HERE.
NOTE: REPENT IF YOU NEED TO.
FATHER, I ASK THAT REPENTANCE BE GRANTED TO _____________ SO THAT HE/SHE CAN BE SET FREE FROM THIS SITUATION.
FATHER, I PETITION THE COURT FOR THE SALVATION OF ALL PEOPLE IN THIS SITUATION WHOSE NAMES ARE NOT WRITTEN IN THE LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE. THEIR ETERNITY IS THE MOST PRESSING NEED FATHER. REVEAL THE LOVE OF JESUS TO THEM TODAY IN JESUS’ NAME!
4. OBJECTIONS TO SATAN’S ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES
FATHER, I COME BOLDLY TO THE COURT OF HEAVEN IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH. I OBJECT AND CHALLENGE SATAN’S LEGAL RIGHT TO OPERATE AGAINST ME BASED ON MY RIGHT STANDING WITH YOU. I REMIND YOU THAT I AM NOW FIRMLY IN THE BLOODLINE OF YESHUA, WHICH MEANS THAT ANY AND ALL OPERATIONS THAT WERE LEGAL IN MY NATURAL BLOODLINE IS NO LONGER PERMITTED IN THE BLOODLINE OF YESHUA!
SATAN CANNOT LEGALLY ATTACK ME IN THE AREA OF __________________ BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN RENOUNCED IN JESUS’ NAME!
I COMMAND YOU SATAN, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH TO CEASE ALL EVIL WORK AGAINST ME USING LEGALITIES IN MY OLD BLOODLINE! IT IS NO LONGER VALID! YOU ARE OPERATING ILLEGALLY AND YOU HAVE TO FLEE BECAUSE I RESIST YOU NOW IN JESUS’ NAME!
5. PETITIONS FOR THE SALVATION AND DELIVERANCE OF OTHERS
FATHER, I COME TO THE COURT OF HEAVEN IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST! I BRING __________________ TO YOUR COURT AND PETITION FOR THEIR SALVATION.
FATHER YOUR WORD SAYS TO PRAY FOR ALL MEN’S SALVATION.
FATHER, I PAINT A DIVINE TARGET ON THEIR LIFE AND ASK THAT YOU MOVE IN ________’S LIFE IN JESUS’ NAME! I ASK THAT INTERCESSORS BE RAISED UP AROUND THE WORLD TO LIFT ____________’S NAME TO YOU TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY FOR SALVATION!
I PETITION FOR THE HOST OF HEAVEN TO BE RELEASED INTO HIS/HER/THEIR LIFE TO BRING THEM TO A PLACE OF DECISION FOR JESUS!
