Voice
Proverbs 1:20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square..”
Just before we start, I would like to bring to your notice few glaring words that points out the importance of our subject today – Voice of Wisdom. This scripture opens like this..” Out in the open wisdom calls aloud..” Notice two things here: out in the open and aloud, wisdom does warn us loud not just inside a monastery, church or prayer cell but it is right there in the market place, malls, theatres, pubs, hookah clubs, etc. The scripture goes on to say: she (wisdom) raises her voice in the public square! Wow! Are you listening?
Don’t tell me ‘I am not aware of bribe, I am not aware this is wrong…I am not aware that he is already married, oh no….Wisdom did cry out but you were deaf. Proverbs 1:24” But since you refuse to listen when I call..” The voice of wisdom is the voice of God! Are you listening? I was ministering to an elderly man who was a very shrewd finance expert who planned his life meticulously, made arrangements for pension after retirement, own house, lots of lots of household items and he was also very strict with his diet; however, hear me out friends, he did not have God in his life. The whole family circle applauded his knowledge, talents and so-called proactive planning but alas he was not prepared for several things that shook his family to the core. Mental illness, sickness, uncontrollable bowels etc. He refused to hear me when I shared Christ with him, alas his worldly wisdom did not help him at the time of need, he is no more now. Warning!
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;
they will look for me but will not find me,
29 since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the LORD.” Very scary!
Today we get to watch vlogs and videos on elderly people affected with dementia, Alzheimer's disease and various other illness and how the caretakers look after them; however, you don’t find Jesus, Bible, prayer or church in the mouth of these elderly people or the caretakers. Living in the twilight days of their life, I feel sad that these elders lack knowledge of God.
Wisdom not only calls but pleads with those who are daringly moving forward to sin, the voice of wisdom cries out above the noise of the rock music in the raving party to warn the young against the evil that is lurking in their life. But people choose to duck the voice of Wisdom!
MOCK: People mock and laugh at the rebukes of the elders and roll their eyes at their advice but punishment follows for those who ignore the voice of wisdom. Wisdom says:
26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you;
I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
Prophet SAMUEL AND King SAUL:
King Saul refused to give heed to the voice of prophet Samuel, when he advised him so one fine day all the good people vanished from Saul’s life leaving him with a bunch of evil forces. Same thing would happen to you if you continuously and rebelliously stand against the rebuke of God.
1 Samuel 28:5 When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. 6 He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. 7 Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”
“There is one in Endor,” they said.
Look at that, Saul had bad company, they did not dare to speak good words or speak godly wisdom to him, they were nasty people who immediately gave the address of the witch who lived in Endor. Watch out!
