When Samson was in Timnah, a Philistine woman caught his eye. When he returned home, he told his parents, "A Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me." His parents objected asking if there wasn't a woman from their tribe or all the Israelites that he could marry. Why must he go to the pagan Philistines to find a wife? Samson told his father to get her for him. She looks good to him. Judges 14:1-3
A few things wrong here. First, it was forbidden for the Israelites to marry a foreigner because there was the risk of the foreigners turning the hearts of the Israelites away from God. Deuteronomy 7:3-4 Second, Samson didn't know ANYTHING about this woman except that she was beautiful. Physical beauty isn't a good enough reason to date or marry someone because physical beauty can change over time. True beauty lies within the personality, heart, soul, and spirit of a person.
It's obvious that Samson's parents weren't thrilled about his choices, but what they didn't know was that God was at work in this, creating an opportunity to work against the Philistines who ruled over Israel at that time. Judge 14:4
Sometimes things happen that don't make any kind of sense at all. But what a lot of people don't understand is that God is always behind the scenes working. That thing that seems insane could very well be the thing that God will use to bring glory to His name and usher people into their divine destiny.
