SADDEST VERSES IN THE BIBLE
Many have preached, and many know the shortest verse in the Bible, which is John 11:35. Jesus wept. Some may say, that to them that is the saddest verse in the Bible.
I can ask each of you here what might be your favorite verse or verses and I would get different answers from most everyone here. The same goes if I ask you what you think is the saddest verse in the bible.
This morning I want to bring to you a message from what I believe at least to me, is the Saddest verses in the Bible.
I know there are some sad verses contained in the Word of God, some from deaths, some from sin, some from turning their backs on God.
As I studied this message two verses came to my attention. I have read them many times over as I’m sure you have also. But this time I saw the sadness, I saw the darkness, I saw the emptiness, I saw the destruction, I guess you could put about any adjective you want that describes things which represent desolation, and end to it all.
If you will turn with me to.
REVELATION 20:12-15
20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Have you ever come across a person that did not believe in Heaven, Hell, or Jesus? I know I have too many times in my life and I’m sure you have also.
Just look at verse 15, how sad of a day that will be for untold millions if not more to hear God tell them that He did not know them.
There will be no escape from what will happen next, there is no more time to change your mind, or to make an excuse as to why you are in this predicament.
It is sad that people have harden their hearts and they have rejected the pull of the Holy Spirit to draw them to Christ and to accept him as their Lord and Savior.
I truly do think verse 15 has to be one of not the saddest verse in the entire Bible. There is no hope, no conclusion that will end up with them being allowed to enter into heaven…its over, it’s all over!
God did not find them, now for eternity their soul will be in the Lake of Fire, lost without being with their creator.
How did this happen? How did this person come to stand before God and then be sent to Hell?
First off, I must say there was a time when the Holy Ghost was before them and moving in and around their spirit to Call them unto repentance.
God has, and never will allow a person to go to Hell without a visit from the Holy Spirit to attempt to change their course in life here on earth.
The Holy Spirit has come to everyone living after Jesus died on that cross.
That pulling of the Holy Spirit pulled you from being a sinner lost and headed for Hell to becoming a child of the living God and to have your name written in the Book of Life. This is the same Holy Spirit that pull me, and everyone else, to salvation.
The same Holy Spirit that pull you and I from the grasp of Satan and an eternity in Hell.
This is the same Holy Spirit that has been rejected by untold millions or more and because of this rejection, their name will not be in the Book of Life.
These people have been blinded by Satan to the fact that there is a God, there is the Son Jesus, there is a Heaven there is a Hell.
They believe that once you die, you are gone, you are buried and covered with dirt and your flesh rots away. Or as some say, you become worm dirt.
A typical conversation goes something like this.
I want to tell you about Jesus’ sir.
I do not believe in Jesus and that fairy tale story.
Do you believe in Heaven or Hell?
Nope, once you die, you die, nothing more to add to the story.
So, you do not think there is a Jesus or a Satan?
Nope, It’s a story that was told thousands of years ago and has been added to fool people like you that cannot think for themselves.
Well, can I pray for you that God moves in your direction and shows you the truth?
You can chant all that gibberish you want, but I have more important things to do than to hear you pray as you say, I’m leaving.
How many of you have had this type of conversation with someone?
Listen, Satan will not even attempt to show himself to those people, Satan wants them to think there is no devil, there is no Hell.
Satan can wait, he knows that if can keep them blinded to the truth that when that day arrives when the truth is before them, there is not a way to escape the Lake of Fire.
Satan has fooled many of young boys and girls in thinking Hell is a ongoing party and it will be fun, crazy, wild and you can do anything your heart desires, drink, take drugs, illicit sex, perversion. It's going to be a blast; I want to go to Hell if that is what it will be like.
But… what does the Word of God say Hell is like? What is the truth here?
Matthew 13:49-50
13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Revelation 14:11
14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Revelation 20:10
20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Oh, to those that think you just die and become worm dirt? Read Mark 9:48
Mark 9:48
9:48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
That worm is not going to die!
Hell is not going to be a party town, but Satan will do everything in his power to make you believe it. You remember that Billy Joel song back in the 70’s…...Only the good die young!
How many have committed suicide because they really believe that only the good die young? I have read where this exact song was a reason for a young boy or girl to commit suicide, it was written in their last note left to those that loved them.
Satan will use ever avenue he can to make you believe that Hell is a better place for you.
I’ve thought this is why there is a song that is titled, Highway to Hell but then another song tells us there is only a Stairway to Heaven. Think about that one awhile. It might it hit you around three in the morning and you will begin to see and understand that Satan is going after all those that are willing to listen.
Church, that is the answer to that question I asked earlier as to How did this happen? How did this person come to stand before God and then be sent to Hell?
Because they listen to Satan and was fooled into thinking that God, Jesus, and Heaven is just a fairytale.
I think Romans 1:20-21 points this out perctly.
Romans 1:20-21
1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Satan caused them to be vain in their imaginations and tier foolish hearts were darkened by the great deceiver.
So those times that you were speaking to those people, trying to tell them about salvation, they laughed at you because you were not as smart as they were, they were much wiser than you and they walked away, but in the end on the day of Judgement they stood before God, and they were the fools.
My heart breaks, I have this groaning in my spirit when I am confronted with these type people. It makes me wonder as to how many people will they go to and have them believe the lies that they believe. How many souls will that person be sending to Hell?
I am called of God not just as a preacher but a child of God to proclaim the truth to all that will listen and hear.
You are called the same as I am to go and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to make haste because Satan is forming his army and ready and willing to fight each and every one of us for that lost soul.
I have to tell them; I have the Spirit of truth inside me, and it has to come out. I cannot hold it in as long as I am able to tell others of that saving grace in accepting Jesus.
How much longer do we have before God turns to his son Jesus and tells him to go get my children. A song I cherish and love to listen to proclaims this event, the song is called, The Midnight Cry!
I hear the sound
Of a mighty rushing wind,
And it's closer now
Than it's ever been.
I can almost hear the trumpet
As Gabriel sounds the call;
At the midnight cry,
We'll be going home!
I look around me; I see prophecies fulfilled everywhere;
The signs of the times, they're appearing everywhere.
I can almost see the Father as He says, Son, go get my children.
Oh, at the midnight, the Bride of Christ will rise!
When Jesus steps out on a cloud to call His children,
The dead shall rise to meet Him in the air.
And then those that remain shall be quickly changed;
But….. Revelation 20:15 will have to happen.
20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
I’ll close now.
The saddest verse maybe in the Bible, I hope I can show just someone else the path to heaven before it is too late.
1- I hope God can use me just one more time to tell someone of the blood that was shed on that cross at Calvary.
2- I pray that God will allow me a time to knell and pray with someone to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
3- My prayer every day is that God can use me, that he trusts me enough to send me to the person that needs the cleansing blood.
I do not wish anyone to have to ever experience what happens in Revelation 20:15, my desire is that all will come and accept Jesus and have their name written in the Book of Life.
How about you? Is your name written in the Book of Life this morning?
If not, I will kneel and pray with you and get it right with God.
God allowed me this morning to preach this sermon this morning. This sermon is awakening for that day of reckoning. There will be no more days to decide after that day, it is finished, it is over.
If this sermon is just for the very reason that we all need to tell more people about Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to tug on their spirit to bring them to Jesus, it is worth it all, it’s worth it all.
