I have seen cars, homes, and businesses with a sticker or poster with the words, “Psalm 91 Protects this property” Psalm 91 can protect nobody; the God of Psalm 91 is our safe place.
Psalm 91:1-2 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
The Old Testament is a shadow of the real thing in the New Testament. The Tabernacle or Temple where God originally dwelt with his people was destroyed and rebuilt by Jesus, but this time not physically. His temple is now the corporate church, every individual becomes a temple.
When Jesus was on earth for 33 years, he could only be in one place at one time.
John 1:14 tells us that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
The word “dwelt” means “to tabernacle among” or “to pitch one’s tent among.” It refers back to Exodus: “The glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle” (Exodus 40:34). Moses’ tabernacle was indeed a dwelling place for God, but it was also a prophetic representation of the Word, Jesus Christ, becoming flesh and dwelling among us.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Immanuel means "God with us." The Bible constantly points to the coming Messiah, who fulfilled God's loving plan for the salvation of the world. When Mary gave birth to Jesus, Immanuel, God became visible to us, He stepped into His creation.
Matthew 1:21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Jesus ascended so that the Holy Spirit Could be sent. The Holy Spirit would then dwell in every person who believes and receives.
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
Acts 1:4-5 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Every believer then becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
When God instructed Moses to build the Tabernacle, God gave every minute detail which Moses had to carry out precisely as God described to him. God created the world in six days and basically, two chapters of the bible tell us how the world was created. 50 Chapters are recorded to tell Moses how to build the Tabernacle. That is how important the place was where God would dwell among the people.
Inside the Tabernacle was the Holiest of Holies, The secret place. This most holy place is where the Ark of the Covenant was kept. The Ark of the Lord’s manifest presence, glory, and power. The Holy of Holies was covered by a veil, and no one was allowed to enter except the High Priest, and even he would only enter once a year to offer the blood of sacrifice and incense.
Hebrews 9:7 But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance;
The physical and earthly “secret place” of the priesthood pointed to the true and spiritual secret place of the Most High. The earthly secret place is a shadow of the real place deep within the hearts of each one of us. The Hebrew word for “secret” means hidden, concealed, protected, or disguised.
So the secret place within each one of us is hidden and protected, it is not for all men but reserved for those who have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. If the building of the earthly Tabernacle was so important then how much more important is our body the temple of the Holy Spirit?
We are the temple and inside of us is the holy place the holiest place. The place where the throne of God is.
Isaiah 66 Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool: What Temple can you build for me as good as that?
Colossians 1:26-27 The mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
The best wine left for last is found in this scripture. We have been given the best and richest gift ever! Christ dwelling inside of our body by His Holy Spirit. In fact, this is a profound secret that was previously hidden for ages and generations but revealed to us today.
Romans 16:25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began This is the secret place of Psalm 91 where we live
Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
When we have a revelation of this secret and this mystery has become an aha moment for us our lives become a testimony of the authority and glory of God’s life. The Most High is our refuge and fortress from all evil.
The best illustration I can give is of a bottle filled with seawater corked and then thrown into the depths of the sea. You have the bottle full of water and surrounding the bottle the whole ocean. This is how we abide in Christ. He fills us and we live in his fulness. Christ inside and Christ completely all around us. Heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool. Heaven connects with Earth and is manifest through our lives on Earth.
God’s desire is for us to abide within His presence until it becomes the very air we breathe, the core and the source of our existence. It should blend effortlessly with our identity and real life so that we are hardly aware of the divine connection between the Spirit and our external world.
You cannot separate God from heaven, heaven is his throne wherever God is heaven is. It is the place God lives; it is the place of His authority. God is omnipresent, there is no place God is not, God is everywhere.
Psalm 139:7-10 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
Jeremiah 23:23-24 “Am I a God near at hand,” says the Lord, “And not a God afar off? 24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the Lord; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.
We live in Him and He lives in us. We are seated in Christ in heavenly places.
Acts 17:27-28 So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’
Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
We do not long to go to heaven, heaven is where God is. By His Holy Spirit, He lives inside of us in the secret, holy place. We are the temple in heaven! The “open” door for all to see and have a revelation of Christ Jesus, the Son of God.
John 1:51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
God wants to completely uncover that holiest place within you where He abides in your spirit. God wants to be visible in our lives so that the expression and manifestation of His presence, purpose, nature, life, glory, and power may be seen by mankind and ultimately by creation!
Romans 8:18-19 18 [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us! 19 For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].
When Moses went into the tent of meeting the whole of Israel watched because they knew something was going to happen. When Moses met with God on Mount Sinai Moses’s face shone with Glory which then faded.
Exodus 33:8-11 When Moses went out to the tent of meeting, all the people rose and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses until he had gone into the tent. 9 When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent, and the Lord would talk with Moses. 10 And all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the tent door, and all the people rose up and worshiped, every man at his tent door. 11 And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tent.
The whole of creation is watching us waiting for the day. Not for some kind of exciting meeting or loud worship with big lights but for the actual shekinah glory shining from our lives.
Jesus Christ has opened the way into the Holiest of all! This is the full salvation and the full inheritance of God that belongs to us His sons! Israel had a tent with the ark of the covenant but only the High Priest could go in once a year. After 440 years, Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem superseded the Tabernacle as the dwelling place of God.
Solomons Temple was the first Temple built in Jerusalem and then destroyed by the Babylonians. A second Temple was built and then destroyed by the Romans in 70AD.
Mark 14:58 We heard Jesus say, I will destroy this temple which is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.
Jesus spoke of His own body destroyed and then the “another” is the Church birthed three days after His resurrection. There will not be a Third Temple built with human hands because we are that temple in which the Holy Spirit Lives.
Today the sanctuary of God is opened in heaven and the throne of God is seen in His temple. God wants to welcome you into His fullness. Henceforth you are to live in union with Him.
1 Corinthians 6:17-20 He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
Son of God, daughter of God, our Father longs for us to enter in and dwell in His fullness forevermore! We still have not experienced what it is to live in the Holy Place, to never leave the tent of meeting as Joshua did. Do yourself a favour and don’t come out of the secret place until the most holy place is what you are!
Psalm 91:9-11 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
