The Lord is also called Lord of Hosts.
Lord of Hosts refers to Lord who dwelleth between or among a group of hosts. The Lord is in the center, surrounded by the hosts. Lord lives among the Hosts. Because the Lord resides between the cherubim, the Lord is referred with the name as LORD of hosts in 2 Samuel 6:2.
Hosts can be an army of angels, numerous molecules, atoms, counsel of wise man, living creatures, cherubim’s etc.
When this name of God is used in the Bible, we must be reminded that the Lord is speaking from or present in a location where the Lord is surrounded by lot of hosts.
The Bible contains numerous references to The Lord of Hosts, some of which are listed below:
1) In the vision of Isaiah (Isaiah 6:3), Isaiah saw the Lord as the Lord among seraphim and angels.
2) David saw the Lord as the Lord of angel armies in the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45).
3) Hannah (1 Samuel 1:11) saw the Lord as the Lord of human cellular system which includes DNA, genes, cells and chromosomes. This cellular system is responsible for creation of new life.
4) Isaiah 28:29 – The Lord among His counsel of wise men
When the Lord of Hosts is said to be speaking in the Bible, it is as though the Lord is speaking from among His Hosts. A warrior God is the Lord among His angel armies. A God of decision and advice is the Lord among His heavenly council. The Lord among the seraphim’s is a Holy God.
A beautiful sight to witness and experience is the Lord among His hosts. Psalm 84 was written by the sons of Korah as a prayer to dwell in the courts of the Lord of Hosts. The Lord of Hosts’ abode is a blessed and privileged place.
The sons of Korah wrote, “How lovely is Your dwelling place, LORD of Hosts,” in Psalms 84:1. The sons of Korah said that it was lovely to see the Lord with His hosts in His abode. They specifically devote a full chapter to outlining the Lord of Hosts’ dwelling place.
Better a day in Your courts than a thousand anywhere else. Sons of Korah might have tasted a glimpse of Lord’s courts. As a result, there was a deep desire and longing to reside in those courts. With a small glimpse of beauty, radiance, and brilliance of Jesus available in this place, sons of Korah might have got an understanding that it would take thousand days on earth to experience such brilliance of Jesus. It might take a thousand days on earth to experience the beauty, light, and brilliance of Jesus that sons of Korah experienced in one day in that place.
There is something fascinating about these courts – the Lord is seen as God and King in these courts.
The LORD God is seen in this place as a sun and a shield. There are many luminous bodies in the sky, the moon and the stars radiating light. But they are all eclipsed by the radiance of the Sun. The sun may be viewed in all of its splendour and majesty in this place. Jesus is the sun. The sons of Korah might have got a glimpse of Jesus in all his glory, brilliance, and radiance in this place. As a result, they longed to dwell in the courts of Lord of Hosts. There was so much brilliance or radiance of Jesus displayed in this house of God that it attracted people and made them wish to remain there, even as doorkeepers.
May be in this dwelling place there will be many courts. Some of the courts can be
1) Court of decision – The Lord will be seen among heavenly counsel of 24 elders.
2) Court of heavenly host – The Lord will be seen among heavenly host.
3) Court of angel armies – The Lord will be seen among angel armies.
Sons of Korah wanted to see all these courts of the Lord of Hosts.
In between the hosts, we have the opportunity to see the God as a King. The sons of Korah loved even the altars of the Lord of Hosts. People who reside in the Lord of Hosts’ dwelling place are blessed.
The Lord was seated on the throne between 24 elders and living creatures. The lamb was seen among this hosts of 24 elders and living creatures.
When we make a dwelling near or in the dwelling place of the Lord of Hosts, we can get a chance to see Lord seated on the throne and the Lamb Jesus near the throne. In this place, there will be a deposit of the deep understanding about Jesus and God the Father. This place holds the knowledge of the Lord’s secrets.
When we start living near the dwelling place of the Lord of Hosts, there is sound advice, safety, and direction.
Among the Lord of Hosts – The sun is God, and the shield is God.
When we see the Lord among his hosts, it also signifies that the surrounding hosts will carry out all of God’s words and deeds.
Every command the Lord issues is carried out by the hosts who surround him.
The Lord of Hosts is a position of authority where decisions, battles and wonderful things occur.
Today based on your needs, ask the Lord to reveal about himself and His hosts.
If its a battle, ask God to reveal himself as the Lord of angel armies.
If its decisions and advice, ask God to reveal himself as the Lord of heavenly counsel.
If you are barren, ask God to reveal himself as the Lord of human cellular system.
Start living near and inside the dwelling place of the Lord of Hosts. It’s a honour. Don’t ignore it. When we live near dwelling place of Lord of Hosts, you will see the Lord as shield and a sun giving the life of Jesus. You will be living in the shelter of Lord of hosts. Jesus’ blessings, direction, and protection will be your heritage.
