“The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.” Isaiah 50:4
In this verse, the Lord gives his servant a learned tongue so that he will know how to speak a word in season to the weary. Weary – exhibiting or experiencing extreme tiredness. There are many weary people around us. Seasons are changing but still they are weary. Isaiah mentions one weary person at a time in this verse, not a group. Isaiah could be searching for all the weary individuals around him. When you have a burden for the weary, God wakes you up in the morning and talks to you clearly about the words to be conveyed to the weary. You will get to hear God’s voice in the morning. What a blessing it is to begin your day hearing God’s voice. God wakes his servant with his voice each morning and fills his mouth with rich and timely words. God awakes only those servants who have a burden for weary. Is the Lord waking you up every day for the sake of those who are weary? How many weary people are there on your prayer list? Have a lot of weary people on your prayer list so that God can speak to you for many days. Weary people can be people you know or people on God’s list.
The word in season must come from God, otherwise it will have no impact on the weary. When we stop or neglect to tell the word in season to the weary, it also implies God will stop speaking to and training us on a daily basis. God is ready to speak to you every morning on the condition that you speak the word in season to the weary. God is concerned about the weary, so He has given you the tongue of the learned. It’s about the weary people, God is speaking to you.
There are three aspects to this verse.
1) The Lord God gives the learned tongue – The Lord trains and gives his servant the learned tongue to speak timely words to the weary. The Lord trains and prepares his servant to talk in a professional way. Professional way to deal, comfort and encourage all weary people based on their situations. Even in critical situations, his servants are trained to speak the right words. As part of training, the Lord puts the right words in the tongue of His servant. The word in season gives the life of Jesus to the weary.
2) I should know how to speak – The Lord provides the words for the weary, but his servants must form proper sentences and convey it to the weary in an easy to understand manner. Depending on the situation of the weary, the preacher must form simple understandable sentences based on God’s words. God has trained his servant; now it is up to his servant to say the right words to the weary. He shouldn’t say the same words to all weary.
3) A word in season to him who is weary
Weariness can be removed when we hear a word in season. These days many weary people are fed up with sermons and doctrines. It’s because in these sermons, it’s difficult to find or don’t have the word in season.
Weariness can be as a result of lot of trails, illness, unanswered prayers, etc. For example –
A person who is in a season of illness – needs a word of healing.
A person in season of confusion – needs a word of guidance and direction.
A person in season of death – needs a word of consolation and comfort.
A person in season of defeat – needs a word of providence.
Everyone goes through a season of need. In this season they are waiting for a word from God. They become weary when they do not receive a word in season. God becomes a complicated doctrine to them, rather than a living presence. Weariness has caused backsliding of many believers. These days preachers don’t care about the weariness of their congregations. They preach about the future but don’t cater for the present needs. They completely neglect the present need and weariness of their congregations. But Isaiah states clearly that God has called him to deliver a word in season to the weary.
God has granted Isaiah a learned tongue and a learned ear. Isaiah received training in both hearing and speaking from God in order to deliver a word in season to the weary. When we care for the weary, God also grants us a learned tongue and a learned ear. Isaiah had a learned ear, which meant that every word he heard from God was clear and audible. Since his hearing is also learned, he could have received complicated and marvelous revelations from God and understood them. When you care for the weary; you can receive and comprehend God’s marvelous revelations.
Jesus never ignored a needy situation. Meeting people’s needs in accordance with God’s will is essential to Jesus. Jesus was considering what they would eat after speaking to the people in the remote place (Mark 6:30). Jesus was concerned with both physical and spiritual weariness. Rather than complaining about situations or preachers, if God gives you a burden, ask the Lord for a learned tongue to speak a word in season to the weary. People will worship God beautifully if weariness is removed. If we are willing to say a word in season to many weary people, God will speak to you more frequently on a daily basis.
A word in season may not always be the answer to a problem, but it does remove all weariness and brings the joy of the Lord. When a weary person’s weariness is removed, there is joy, and he can endure even the most difficult situations.
God is ready to speak to you each morning on the condition that you will hear from God and share a word in season to those who are weary around you. Your spiritual growth is directly related to helping those who are weary around you. Taking weary people into your heart increases your daily walk with God. If you want to stand in the gap for the weary, God will open your ears to hear and fill your lips with words to use you as his servant to proclaim the word in season for the weary.
If we intend to care for the weary, God is willing to open ears to hear like learned and speak like learned every morning. God is ready to open your ear that has been closed for years to hear God’s voice when you care for weary people. God is ready to speak to you and train you on a daily basis if you care for the weary.
If God brings weary people into your life, don’t miss this opportunity start praying for them so that you can bring a word in season to them and also know God on a daily basis. Begin praying for those who are weary around you, and you will hear God speaking to you.
Take up this challenge to care for the weary; God is ready to open your ears to hear and touch your mouth, making you God’s mouthpiece to share His word in season for the weary.
