Sometimes God asks questions before performing a miracle. Regardless of the answer we give, Jesus still performs the miracle.
Every miracle/healing of Jesus has two parts
1) fulfils the physical need by providing an external solution
2) satisfies the spiritual need by providing an understanding or revelation about Jesus
Therefore, the purpose of Jesus’ questions along with the miracle is to reveal something about himself. The miracle meets the physical need, while the question along with understanding about Jesus satisfies the spiritual need.
Whether the question is answered or not, it provides an understanding about Jesus. This understanding becomes a blessing for the rest of our lives.
Each answer when given contained a revelation about Jesus.
Miracles and Healings are one of the ways by which God shares the revelation about His Son Jesus. God’s first priority is to make his son Jesus Christ known. Every miracle of Jesus satisfies the physical need of a person along with providing a unique revelation about Jesus.
For example
1) A certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years. Jesus asked the question – Who touched my robes? (Mark 5:30)
Miracle – Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.
Understanding about Jesus – There is healing power when we touch Jesus. Even chronic health issues can be cured by Jesus.
2) And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
Miracle – Blind eyes were opened
Understanding about Jesus – By faith in Jesus, blind eyes can be opened.
3) Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
Miracle – Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
Understanding about Jesus – Authority of Jesus – Jesus can drive out demons instantly.
4) Feeding the Four Thousand (Matthew 15:34) – Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?”
Miracle – Jesus fed the multitude in the wilderness with fish and bread
Understanding about Jesus – Jesus is a provider God. Jesus can multiply the seven loaves, and a few little fish to feed around 4000 people. Even in the wilderness, Jesus can provide for his people abundantly.
Every one of Jesus’ miracles offered such a beautiful insight into who he was. This knowledge of Jesus brings us closer to him and offers hope to others who are going through problems.
There are many miracles happening today, but there is no understanding about Jesus. Modern miracles all share the belief that Jesus heals but apart from that no understanding about person of Jesus. When people share about the miracle, there is no fresh understanding about Jesus is given to the people.
God does miracles to reveal and draw people closer to Jesus. If the working of miracles is not bringing people closer to Jesus, then it’s not true miracles.
In Jesus’s era, after every miracle of Jesus, the people were astonished and were drawn to see and listen to Jesus. People travelled from all around the nation to see, meet, and listen to Jesus.
Today also when miracles are done, are people drawn to came to see, meet and listen to Jesus?
God does miracles to bring us closer to see, meet and listen to Jesus.
