Notice from my topic I did not say, Praying FOR victory, I said, Praying FROM victory. This is critical to underscore because, often times believers come to God in prayer with the notion or mentality of praying in order to obtain victory in the area of their need. This is not a New Testament or the new covenant mentality, it is not in consonance with the mind of Christ which Paul affirms that we already have (1 Corinthians 2:16), and Philippians 2:5 TPT, he said, let the mindset of Christ become your motivation, that is, your motivation for life should be powered by the mind of Christ that is already in you. Let this mind be in you… not that you don’t already have it, but that it should be actively at work in your daily life. So the new covenant reality is a mentality that every believer must consciously and actively live by and live from in order to walk in total victory.
What is the new covenant or New Testament mentality? It is the mindset that is rooted in Christ and premised on the finished work of Jesus Christ. When Jesus died on the cross and said, “it is finished”, it was truly all finished, nothing and no more work was left for us to do, the only work that was left for us is REST! (Hebrews 4:19), the finished work left us with good works for which the new Creation was created for - Ephesians 2:10. A mindset that is rooted in Christ and premised on the finished work never prays for victory, it never fights for victory, it only fights FROM victory and prays FROM victory, because it is aware that it all finished on the cross and now Christ has made all things available to us by grace, but we must receive it by faith.
Life is spiritual and lived on earth psychologically by the Spirit, that is to say, psychological theology, that is, the knowledge of God through Christ in our minds (Christocentricity) must power our living. God cannot be taught, He can only be revealed by the Spirit through faith. This knowledge is called the revelation knowledge of Him. This revelation knowledge comes only by faith, that is, by believing God and His word, for faith comes or is activated by the continuous hearing and acknowledging of the word of Christ. The word of Christ is everything He said and promised us and that He ratified and delivered to the believer through His death, burial and resurrection.
The cross of Jesus is the digging line between the old covenant and the new covenant, it is the dividing point of scripture between the Old Testament and the New Testament, the cross changed everything. If the cross changed everything, we cannot under the new covenant have the mentality or live from the mindset of the old covenant, because everything in the old covenant was pointing to Jesus who is the fulfillment of the Old Testament: the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. In the Old Testament Jesus (Christ) is concealed, in the New Testament Jesus (Christ ) is revealed. Under the old covenant, the people ( the Jews) hoped for deliverance, and victory, so they prayed FOR God’s intervention, mercy, healing, forgiveness, salvation, deliverance, health, wealth, power…. Etc, but under the new covenant, at the coming of Jesus, and after His resurrection, He accomplished and became the fulfillment of all that the Old Testament saints hoped for (Hebrews 11:1), so that we who are now saved and living from the new covenant do no longer have to pray FOR victory or for faith, peace, health, wealth etc, we have all things when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive Him by faith in our heart, He comes in with all the FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD, so we no longer have to pray for victory but we now live FROM the victory of Christ’s cross and perfect obedience. This is the mindset from whence Paul wants us to live from. This is the new covenant mentality, it is the mind of Christ, the mind that knows that it has all things that partaineth to life and godliness in Christ, and that grace has made all things available thru Christ, therefore, it is not petitioning God to supply, it only takes by faith in prayer what has already been provided for. Praying from the new covenant is praying FROM a victory mentality, praying from the mind of Christ, and this psychological disposition positions you to live actively and victoriously instead of from a place of passivity and uncertainty about what Christ has already done for you.
I pray that you live actively and consciously from this mindset, because the battle of the believer is more psychological than it is spiritual. We have Christ and we have all things in Christ in our born again spirit, but our unrenewed mindset must conform and acquiesce to this truths nd reality, and this only comes by believing what God’s word says and we receive the mind renewal that conforms to the mind of Christ in our spirit. Romans 12:1-2.
As a believer, that is, as one who believes anything and everything God says, don’t pray FOR victory because you already have it, pray FROM victory! ?? This is what it means to pray grace-based prayer. Grace has made all things available but faith must take what grace has made available - by just believing that is is DONE !
