2023.03.12 Sermon Notes. Glorify the LORD

William Akehurst, HSWC

KEY PRINCIPLE FROM SCRIPTURE: Read together:

Galatians 4:6 (NLT) And because we are HIS children, GOD has sent the SPIRIT of HIS SON into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

OF, THROUGH, and TO HIM, Be Glory Forever. So Be It!

Romans 11:36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

BIG IDEA: To Glorify GOD is to give HIM honor and praise. It also means to live our lives in a way that pleases HIM. In scripture, we learn to forgive because we have been forgiven. In this same sense, we Glorify GOD because HE Glorifies us through JESUS.

What does it mean to Glorify? Honor, Praise, Worship, Reverence, to Speak of with High Regard, to Exalt and Lift Up, to Shine Forth…

What does it mean to Glorify God? All the above, and more. We glorify God in our lives and with our bodies.

GOD glorifies us by making us HIS Children and placing HIMSELF in us (Gal 4:6), and giving us Eternal Life

Reader: Psalms 34:3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.

GOD GLORIFIES US

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

CALLED, JUSTIFIED, GLORIFIED

Romans 8:30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

WHY SHOULD WE GLORIFY GOD?

SCRIPTURES COMMANDS US TO GLORIFY GOD

Psalms 29:2 Give (Ascribe) unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

GLORY DUE HIS NAME. GLORY in the beauty of holiness. We can’t do that of ourselves, it’s HIS SPIRIT in us that makes us holy, and that’s the beauty of HOLY SPIRIT within us. Understand that principle. We can Worship the LORD in Spirit and Truth because of HIS SPIRIT, the SPIRIT of JESUS, the Way Truth and Life, “IN” us.

GOD DESERVES ALL GLORY AND PRAISE, and it is due unto HIM and even to HIS SACRED and HOLY, NAME.

HIS NAME is Over all things. And simply put, HIS NAME, Hebrews “yod-hey-vav-hey” the KJV uppercase “LORD”, the mere mention of it, the mere thought of it, our HEAVENLY FATHER, THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, THE KING of the Universe, is to be given GLORY.

GOD IS OUR CREATOR. GOD’S CREATED ALL THINGS FOR HIMSELF. By, Through and For HIM

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

THE LORD IS OUR SAVIOR

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

GOD MEETS ALL OUR NEEDS

Philippians 4:19-20

19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 20 Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

HOW DO WE GLORIFY GOD?

WE GLORIFY GOD BY LOVING HIM ABOVE ALL ELSE.

Mark 12:30-31 30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

IF WE LOVE ANYTHING ELSE MORE THAN GOD, IT IS AN IDOL.

EXODUS 10 COMMANDMENTS. THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.

Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.

LOVING GOD MEANS OBEYING HIM. THIS IS HOW WE SHOW OUR LOVE FOR HIM. WE DO WHAT HE SAYS

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD

OUR ACTIONS SHOULD GLORIFY GOD IN US

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV) 31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

WE GLORIFY THE LORD THROUGH SPIRITUAL GROWTH. GROWING IN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, SEEKING TO KNOW HIM MORE, AND TO FOLLOW AFTER HIM

2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

AS WE GROW SPIRITUALLY, THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT SHOWS. THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT.

Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

GLORIFY THE LORD IN THOUGHTS AND WORDS

Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

GLORIFYING THE LORD IN WORDS, MEANS WE SPEAK HIGHLY OF HIM AND TELL OTHERS OF HIS GOODNESS.

Psalms 34:1-3 1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

WE GLORIFY GOD IN OUR RELATIONSHIPS AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS.

WE SHOULD SHOW KINDNESS, HUMILITY AND FORGIVENESS, STRIVING TO IMITATE CHRIST JESUS IN OUR RELATIONSHIPS. WHEN WE DO, IT BRINGS GLORY TO THE LORD

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

GIVE GLORY THROUGH YOUR WORK, YOUR ACTIONS

Colossians 3:23-24 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

GLORIFY THE LORD BY SHARING THE GOSPEL.

Philippians 2:9-11

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

LET THE WHOLE EARTH BE FILLED WITH HIS GLORY. THAT’S NOT ONLY GOD’S CREATION, BUT ALSO YOU AND ME.

Psalms 72:19 And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen.

Psalms 19:1-3 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.

Benediction: Let this be your praise to the LORD. Read it out loud.

Psalms 34:1-3

1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.

1 Chronicles 29:10-14 (NLT) 10 Then David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly:

“O LORD, the God of our ancestor Israel, may You be praised forever and ever!

11 Yours, O LORD, is the Greatness, the Power, the Glory, the Victory, and the Majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O LORD, and this is Your Kingdom. We adore You as the One Who is over all things.

12 Wealth and honor come from You Alone, for You rule over everything. Power and might are in Your hand, and at Your discretion people are made great and given strength.

13 “O our God, we thank You and praise Your Glorious Name!

14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to You? Everything we have has come from You, and we give You only what You first gave us!

Blessed be the NAME of the LORD. Amen

Be Blessed and Be a Blessing,

Bill
