Summary: Christmas Eve service go light the world we live in.

Isaiah 9:2-7 “Go Light our World”

1. We are the light of the world,

• Our candlelight services, is the most attended service of the year.

• There’s an old story about a grandmother struggling with a life-threatening illness. She had her young granddaughter visiting with her one Christmas. The granddaughter was watching her as she lit a candle and placed it in the window. “Grandma,” the little girl asked, “why do we light candles on Christmas?”

• The grandmother said, “We light candles on Christmas, my dear, to tell the darkness we beg to differ.”

• I think that why we gather “to tell the darkness’s we beg to differ”

2. Darkness Never Sleeps it always near or somewhere

• Somewhere, a child will go to bed hungry.

• Somewhere another child will cry himself to sleep, because Christmas Eve is one of those times one parent drinks too much and the other parent pays the price.

• Somewhere someone is selling a powdery substance another

• somewhere a person is being abused, somewhere there is domestic violence, somewhere there is some sort of illicit pleasures, somewhere someone is suffering with illness, somewhere someone is cold because of homelessness

3. Darkness never sleeps. It’s always open for business.

• Although Darkness never sleeps There is a candle in every soul Some brightly burning, some dark and some cold . Remember the song “Go light your world” Chris Rice

• Carry your candle, run to the darkness Seek out the helpless, confused and torn

• So carry your candle, run to the darkness Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn

• Carry your candle, run to the darkness seek out the hopeless, deceived and poor

4. We beg to differ with the darkness so, The candle in our souls let’s Carry our candle into the world.

• We beg to differ about darkness that’s why we light the candles.

• Yes, We’ve Seen the Light in the book of Isaiah: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness — on them light has shined (9:2).

• We light the candles because something inside us calls us to this place.

• You don’t know why, you can’t put a name to it, this power that calls you.

• We once walked in the darkness

5. Tonight as we light our candles I hope we beg to differ with the darkness I hope we will carry our candle and go light the world

• I hope you feel the presence of the Christ Child in your midst

• I hope tonight as you leave this place you leave different than when you entered.

• I hope tonight as you step out into the darkness you will seek a closer walk with Jesus

• I hope tonight as you will carry your candle into the world as Christ told His disciples

“You are the light of the world,”

• I hope tonight as we will light the candles we will share the light of Christmas

• I hope tonight we beg to differ from the darkness and we will go carry our candles of Hope, Love, peace, and joy and go light our world.
