Advent magnifies the Lord. Luke 1:46-55
1. Mary Magnifies the Lord is our God to small?
• Mary says that her “soul magnifies the Lord.
• The word “magnify.” The first and primary meaning of the word is to enlarge or increase the apparent size of an object
• magnify in another meanings: “to make more exciting; intensify; dramatize; heighten.”
• Then, one discovers yet another meaning: “to praise or extol
• Mary extols. She lauds or praises and rejoices in God her savior.
2. Mary Magnifies the Lord she enlarges Her God
• “My soul magnifies the Lord, it’s Mary’s soul enlarges God
• Mary tells us the reason that her soul enlarges her God for it is God who has looked with favor on the lowly state of his servant. Surely from now on all generations will call me blessed,
• for the Mighty One has done some amazing things for me,
3. During this Christmas season why don’t we enlarge our understanding of The Incarnation God becoming flesh dwelling with us
• Jesus Christ is God the Son come in the flesh—that He is both God and man, deity and humanity, in one person. In a very real sense, every major doctrine of the Christian faith converges in this one astounding truth.
• Enlarge or magnify our understanding of His Birth in Bethlehem the secular world has Christ-Less idea of Christmas
• Let us magnify the idea of the virgin birth of the Christ we enlarge the history and the life of Jesus, we lift up the majesty of God,
• Prophets of old said "Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel." (Isaias 7:14) a virgin gave birth
4. During Christmas why don’t we enlarge our mission remember Jesus’s Mission
• His mission was to save the lost as was God the Fathers John 3:16
• Isaiah said His mission was open the blinded eyes 42:7to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
• His mission was preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
• His mission was to give light to those who are walking in darkness
• His mission was a tremendous undertaking to die for our sins 6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7
5. Finally, Have we magnified or enlarged God in our Life?
• Maybe we should ask ourselves how big Is the cross we bear?
• Mary’s Cross was huge her response “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word” (v. 38). I will be humiliated, misunderstood, Enormous shock/fear
• Could face Death by stoning for being pregnant as a betrothed
• Mary was Dirt poor without a place to give birth. Had to avoid King Herod’s wrath. Was prophesied to have a sword pierce through her heart (Death of her son).
• We can magnify the Lord by recommitting our life to following Jesus
• When we face problems that are magnified let’s stay the course Recall the original disciples, who were asked by Jesus, “Do you also wish to go away?”, Simon Peter said, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life” (vv. John 6:67-68).
• Jesus was born in a cradle, He died on a cross, and He was destined for a crown, He is worthy of all. He is deserving of Advent magnification, Or being magnified not just during Advent but always. Let’s magnify, Lets heighten our Praise, lets enlarge our Faith, let us enlarge God
