The curious case of Uriah and his Bathsheba.
We each have something very beautiful and special that can make others kill us in order to get it. Uriah had Bathsheba, what do you have? Yes, Beloved, who or what is your Bathsheba?
What steps have you taken to safeguard it? Or are you one of those, what will be will be kind of people? You don't care and you don't want to care? Are you one of those people with misguided and misplaced loyalties?
Sometimes, we are not even aware of what good things we have or aware of what we have and who we are. We are not aware of the blessings GOD has given to us and we are careless with our gifts and that which has been placed into our hands.
Some have pointed out that Bathsheba, the good thing that Uriah had, had no choice.
Well, that may be the case and it may also not be the case. We are told that David was handsome, tactical, wise, spiritual, alert, sober and then he was the King. These are characteristics that Uriah did not display. Look, ladies like such men, men like David.
Such men like David are very appealing especially when you are married to a man who can drink two days straight, sleep anywhere and may not be able to do certain very important duties within marriage. But hey, what do I know! I know for sure that good things look for good people. Beautiful things look for beautiful people and circumstances. Is it not written about the man who buried his talent, that it was given to the one with five talents. Is it not insinuated that those with little, even the little they have will be taken from them and given to those with more. Not my words, I’m just a writer.
We look at Uriah and we are not sure where to place him. Was he a victim? Was it his destiny to end like that? Whatever the case, there are some lessons we can learn from him and his circumstances.
What were some of the errors of Uriah that made him land snap in the hands of death?
1. Uriah took alcohol. This deadened his senses and affected his decisions. Similarly, you too Beloved, if you keep on taking alcohol and other substances that affect your senses, you will not be the best you in charge of you.
2. Uriah was not aware of his environment. For two days straight he sat in David’s house and didn’t even catch the undertones which must have been floating all over. I mean Beloved, we are on earth, someone must have tried to tell him. Just like nowadays, we are all being warned about the end times but we just ignore or pretend it is a message for someone else and we keep numbing our senses and hoping for the best and trusting this fallen fading world.
3. Further, he carried his own death warrant and didn’t even ask what kind of message he was carrying. I mean sometimes we can be just out of it. I pray Beloved, that The LORD will open our eyes and help us know what we are doing and keep us from being messengers of our own doom.
4. Uriah could not and/ or refused read body language. Surely, something must have slipped from David, Joab and even his Bathsheba. Beloved, I pray once again, may The LORD in HIS abundant mercy open our eyes to reality.
5. Uriah was too righteous. Somewhere in the Bible we are warned not to be too goody two shoes. He should have gone home to Bathsheba and saved his life. I am not saying compromise. I am saying be aware of what is happening around you. Understand your circumstances. Even our SAVIOR ran away with HIS parents when things were hot in Bethlehem and came back when they were reliably informed that Herod had died.
6. The scripture also warns us that when you sit with a king, put a knife to your appetites after all who knows what the king is up to. When invited to dine with leaders and what we call great men and women, don’t go boasting for us on social media plastering pictures of yourself with people whom some The LORD considers HIS enemies or HIS targets for destruction. I remember the case of one Ahab and Jehoshaphat.
Ask yourself,” What does this ruler want from me?” "What does this big shot want from me?" Someone once said, " There is no such thing as a free lunch"
You may just save your life. Remember that biblical principles work everywhere no matter who uses them.
Who knows what would have happened if Uriah had gone to Bathsheba? Who knows what would have happened if he read the note he carried and went missing in action? We don’t know, what we know is that he didn’t and he lost his life and trouble entered David’s house and we are reading about them today. Beloved, learn the lesson.
What can we do ?
1. Value and guard our lives and souls.
2. Stay away from drugs and other intoxicating substances.
3. Make sure your wife has a bathroom, sheltered. Make sure your precious things are not carelessly exposed. Make sure the windows are tinted. Ever heard of the ripple effect? Read the narration and see what happens when what should not be seen is seen by those who should not see it. Well now you have. Especially nowadays when people are just taking baths and doing what should be done in private with cameras on.
4. Be careful when among kings and rulers
5. That which is precious, do not expose unnecessary. Repeated for emphasis.
6. Listen to and for undertones and seemingly meaningless comments and snide comments. May The LORD give you discernment to know what to discard and what to bear in mind.
7. Be curious but not overly curious. After all curiosity killed the cat. Hmmm! Looks impossible. In a nutshell, be led by The HOLY SPIRIT. Those who are led by HIM are the children of GOD.
Thank The MOST HIGH for HIS HOLY SPIRIT who warns us of impending danger. Ask for and sharpen your discernment. Very key.
Beloved, get saved, yes, get born again. Get your name in the LAMB’S Book of Life. Note that everyone in the narration is dead and went on to judgment. We know that David was forgiven but we do not know about Uriah. Imagine getting murdered by your murderer who repents and gets forgiven and you end up in hell. Very unpalatable indeed!
You do your part, repent of your sins, hand over your life to JESUS and be led by The HOLY SPIRIT and of course keep the commandments and be holy and leave the rest to The MOST HIGH who sees and knows the hearts of men.
Beloved, the scripture informs us, "And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15.
Do you want to know JESUS as your personal Lord and Savior? Your eternity is at stake! JESUS has opened the door of salvation to every person. But there is coming a day when the door will be closed. Today is the day of salvation. Choose to be in the family of GOD. JESUS died so that we can spend eternity in Heaven with HIM. Don't delay! And if you want to begin a relationship with GOD or resume a broken one, say this: O GOD, I come to YOU today. I know I am a sinner. I believe that JESUS died on the cross to save me and HE resurrected on the third day. I repent of my sins and forsake them. I confess JESUS as my LORD and SAVIOR . I invite JESUS into my heart. By this prayer, I know I am saved. Thank YOU JESUS for saving me and making me a child of GOD. Amen
