Unshakable Things

PRELUDE: - I grew up in the church back in the day when we sang songs that stirred something up deep down on the inside. I’m not talking about emotionalism because you can be emotional without being spiritual, but you can’t be spiritual without being emotional. We used to sing songs that expressed our hearts desire towards God, and they helped us in times of trouble. Songs like Walk with me Lord walk with me while I’m on this tedious journey I want Jesus to walk with me. Every now and then I must go back to one of those old songs and be like David and encourage myself in the Lord and simply tell Jesus I need thee Oh I need thee every hour I need thee Oh bless me now my savior I need thee. Now there is nothing wrong with the songs of today but it’s the old songs that when you look back and wonder how you made it over that helped bring you over.
One of those old songs is “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less than Jesus Blood and Righteousness”. The words are:- My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But a wholly lean in Jesus' Name When darkness veils His lovely face I rest on His unchanging grace In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand His oath, His covenant, His blood Support me in the whelming flood When all around my soul gives way He then is all my Hope and Stay When He shall come With trumpet sound Oh may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone Faultless to stand before the throne On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand”.
Today I want to preach on “Unshakeable Things”
DEFINITION: - unshakable is something strongly felt and unable to be changed: unable to be disputed or questioned:
PRAYER: -
SCRIPTURE: - Hebrews 12:24-29 says, “And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire”.
OPENING: So many times, we put faith in things that will fail and easily shaken, money will fail, relationships may fail, people will fail, politics will fail, doctors will fail, medical science will fail, the judicial system will fail. We need to put our faith in things that will not fail.
Hebrews 12 lets us know of a time of shaking is coming a time in the world when everything is shaken, except certain things which can never be shaken. 2 Peter 3:10 says, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up”.
There is a shaking taking place. We live a life in a world that is being shaken from change and decay everyday our economic system is being shaken like never before and many believe that we are headed towards another great depression, inflation is at a 40-year high, gas prices are astronomical, the price of everyday necessities are ridiculous and everything in the Dollar Tree is now a $1.25. Globally we are gripped by the pandemic of Covid, Monkeypox is increasing, morality is at an all-time low if even existent, billions of dollars are being spent to try to go to the moon yet there are kids in the street with not enough to eat. Life in general is not regarded at all, killings are on the rise, road rage is crazy, we are fearful of even going to the grocery store because we are not sure if some crazed demonic possessed person is lying in wait to shoot us simply because they just want to see what it feels like to kill someone. People send their children to school wondering if they will make it through to recess. Black lives matter, white lives matter, gay lives matter etc. but really it seems as if nobody matters or cares.
Our political system is being shaken to its very core, lies, rumors, scandals, and insurrections are shaking our countries foundation. Unfortunately, this shaking has come into the church as well. The Bible is denied, Holiness is laughed at, secularism has overtaken the churches, pulpits are becoming preforming art stages and the sanctuary is the theater. Heresies, false doctrines, and monetized propaganda is becoming more and more powerful as people are grasping for any and everything in search of hope only to find that the false hope is being shaken as well.
Matthew 7:24-29 says, “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes”.
WATCH THIS: - All that is not built upon Christ the solid rock will fall and only things eternal will stand. Everywhere there is chaos and collapse on an unprecedented scale; governments are falling, what we consider normal has fallen, our very existence seems to be shaken. But as one of those old song says. “Only what you do for Christ will last”. So, we must make sure we put our faith in unshakeable things.
Unshakeable things like – The Throne of God.
Psalm 45:6 says, “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre”. When you picture God on His throne it states that God is in control and His throne and His rule is forever, He has control over everything and every situation. The problem comes when we place other things, shakable things are placed on the throne. We place money on the throne, people on the throne, problems on the throne and when we place shakable things on the throne then that it what has control in your life. WATCH THIS: - David when he came to give his brothers food because they were in battle when he heard what Goliath was saying he didn’t say who is this giant or who is this champion he said, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine that dare defy the Army of God”. It didn’t matter how big the problem seemed he understood God was on the throne and this problem was not too great for God.
When you understand God is in control, when you understand verses Lamentations 5:19 which says, “Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation”. Then we understand that regardless of what is before us we can lift our hands and hold our head up in the midst of storms and trials with praise and thanksgiving regardless of what else happens because we stand assured that God’s throne last forever and He is in control. Problems may rise and storms may blow but Hebrews 1:10 -12 says, “And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail”. Since the Throne of God is unshakable, I have decided to put my trust in Him and His Throne because while everything else may be shaken the throne of God can never be shaken. God is in control. The question is what or who is on the throne in your life.
The next unshakable thing we need to put our faith in is – The Word of God.
The Word of God is unshakable Mark 13:31 says, “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”. 1 Peter 1:23-25 says. “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you”. Then John1:1-3 says. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made”. The 14 verse says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth”.
When you put your trust in the Word of God you are putting your trust the written word Bible and in the Logos Jesus. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good”. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.
When we put are trust in Jesus the Word of God, the Logos, Emmanuel His power is unshakable. The Word of God is Dunamis, yes that is where we get Dynamite from, but Dunamis means to say that God’s word has power and energy. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”. The Word of God is unshakable and will accomplish what it is sent to do. God’s word has power to give life, the energy to give us strength, power to cause us to overcome.
The word of God has the power to convict and convert sinners. Acts 2:37 says, “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do”. You need a situation turned around put God’s word on it.
The word of God has the power to transform lives. It is by hearing the Word of God that the lost sin sick souls come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ learns about God’s love, grace and mercy and is offered salvation. Ephesians 1:13 says, “ In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise”.
When you put your faith in the Word of God you put your faith in over 30,000 promise that are unshakable 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us”.
When you put your faith in the unshakable word of God you put your faith in unshakable prophecies. 2 Peter 3:3-4 says, “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation”. People may laugh at you; society may scorn you but every prophecy in scripture has been fulfilled except the end time prophecies and they will without fail come to pass.
When you put your faith in the word of God you are trusting and believing God regardless of how things look around you and saying regardless of what reality may be saying right now Truth is God said I am more than a conqueror, that I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me, No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
When you put your faith in the unshakable Word of God you can stand strong and say with confidence Romans 8:31 “What will we say about this? If God is for us, who can be against us”. You know without a shadow of a doubt as Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
CLOSING: - WATCH THIS:- When we put our faith in the unshakable things of God we can rejoice in shakable times. I want to close today with a passage of scripture that deals with putting our faith in the unshakable things of God and the benefits of it as well as the consequences of not doing so beautifully. Psalm 1 says, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (THOSE ARE SHAKABLE THINGS) But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (HIS LAW HIS WORD ARE UNSHAKABLE THINGS) And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (THE BENEFIT OF PUTTING OUR FAITH IN THE UNNSHAKBLE THINGS OF GOD) The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish (CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE THEY TRUST IN SHAKABLE THINGS)”.
That is why as I started “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less than Jesus Blood and Righteousness”.
