Gen_35:10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
Gen 35:11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
Intro:
Israel has been longing for that kind of a Ruler – a King; a perfect one. Since the formation of the nation Israel, there were no kings:
Gen 49:28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
I. The portrait of a perfect Ruler
He should have a personality trait that might initially seem tame. He has to have the ability to stay calm during chaos, decisive and have singleness of purpose.
II. God’s people sought after a perfect Ruler
Jdg 18:1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
There were only tribal leadership. While the rest of the world is establishing their kingdom the jews still maintain tribal leadership until a movement came and there was a clamor to have human king.
III. The Problem with human rulers - God permitted the people to have a change of system but warned them that there will be consequences:
1. Saul was the first king – went mad and died in disgrace
2. David disobeys God and commit terrible sins
3. Solomon led the nation into idolatry
History reveals the same pattern to all rulers worldwide.
Bill Clinton
Charming and suave, Clinton met his Waterloo thanks to alleged sexual shenanigans with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The scandal that followed allegations of sexual misconduct drew major reactions from the world over.
Ronald Reagan
He broke international agreements and helped fund a revolution. He supplied weapons to Iran, breaking an arms embargo. Then he used the gains to fund a revolutionary group called Contras in Nicaragua on the sly, which was in violation of Borland Agreement.
Thomas jefferson
In 1802, Jefferson was accused of having an intimate relationship with his slave, Sally Hemings. To top it off, he was also rumored to have had a child with her. He vehemently denied the allegations, and remained president for the next 7 years. In the later years, DNA evidence pointed to the likelihood of Jefferson having fathered Hemings’ children.
In the Local Scene:
Emilio Aguinaldo, the supposedly first Philippine president (1899–1901), has had too many scandals and un-heroic deeds in his days even as a Katipunero. But perhaps the most gruesome of all would be his betrayal towards the Supremo, which was supported by a letter Aguinaldo wrote confessing that he ordered Bonifacio’s execution.
When Manual A. Roxas assumed presidency (1946-1948) as third and last president of the Commonwealth and the first president of the Third Philippine Republic, the country was recovering from the WWII. To aid the country in its recovery, the US government created the Surplus Property Act of 1944, which disposed $90 billion of surplus war property under the custody of the US to to “a State, political subdivision of a State, or tax-supported organization” such as the Philippines. However, Roxas reportedly did not use the funds to re-establish the country’s economy and progress, but pocketed the rehabilitation money for his personal gain.
The Jewish people never understood the concept of God being a king and has a kingdom. It takes along time to introduce that idea into the mindset of the jews
Daniel prophesied the establishment of five kingdom the 5th one will be the kingdom of God to rule all other kingdom.
Then John the Baptist proclaim that the kingdom of God is here and its King is with men.
Conclusion:
Man’s search for a perfect king or a perfect ruler is over. Jesus has arrived
1Tim_6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
