CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP
TOPIC: DEVELOPING TRUE LEADERS
SCRIPTURE TEXT: Proverbs 27:23-24, Philippians 2:3
INTRODUCTION:
Spiritual leadership does not happen by accident. It develops as God matures people in their character as well as in their relationship with Him. The common denominator of the people God used in the Bible was they were all upright in character and they walked closely with Him. The greater the assignment, the greater the character and the closer the relationship with God will be required.
JESUS IS THE MODEL – 2 Corinthians 2:14-17, John 12:26
1. Jesus is the best model for good leadership.
2. He always sought the Father's will! Always! John 12:49-50
3. John 3:16 shows that the plan of salvation was the Father's plan.
4. Jesus knew the Father's will and didn't let others sidetrack Him from His mission.
5. The temptation in the wilderness was Satan's attempt to prevent Jesus from obeying the Father. – Luke 4:4-13
6. Jesus came to fulfill the Father's plan of salvation. John 12:27-28
7. He adjusted His life to do what the Father wanted. Philippians 2:5-10
GOD'S WORK IN A LEADER'S LIFE
A Christian who wants to grow and become a worthy leader must be disciplined to go through the process of learning at every stage of leadership development.
To help you be a leader, God gives you the Holy Spirit: John 14:26
There is no such thing as a self-made spiritual leader. In Rom. 12:8, Paul identifies leadership as something the Holy Spirit enables people to do. Spiritual ends require spiritual means. Zech. 4:6 says, "'Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit' says the Lord.
To help you be a leader, God gives you worthy leaders: Deuteronomy 34:9, 1 kings 19:19-20. How can we handle the instructions from many leaders? How many leaders or spiritual instructors should we have per time?
CONCLUSION: Leadership is more about "being" than about "doing." A leader is what you "are," not what you do.
