Hebrews 10:11-25 “Our Mission”
1. The writer of Hebrew is telling us about the offerings for sin
• The Priest offering for sin “11 And every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins.”
• The Christ offering for sin: . 12 But when Christ[offered a single sacrifice for sins, 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
• What Christ’s Blood did: God says, “I will remember[b] their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. (No more need of sacrifices Jesus is the Lamb sacrificed for all.)
•
2. The Writer then tells us about our call, or our mission we are told to Persevere. He says, “Let us do some things”
• Let us draw to God 22 with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
• Let us Hold Fast to Hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.
• Let us consider 24 how to spur one another to love and good deeds, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
3. The Writer tells us to that our mission is to have Confidence in the Christ
• Jeremiah 17:7But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.”
• We all want confidence. Digging up some confidence on one’s own. It is tough because insecurity is deep within
• One commentator I read said, “Confidence doesn’t come from within. It comes “in Him.” My confidence is in Jesus Christ.
• The dictionary defines confidence as: “the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something.” My friends we know we can rely on Jesus.
• Confidence is defined as “the state of being confident about the truth of something.”
• And I know God’s truth has set me free.
4. The Writer says, Let us not only be confident but our mission is to confess
• Let us Hold Fast to the confession of our Hope.
• Let us Talk freely about our stuff “We love sharing about our grandchildren’s accomplishments, our children’s activities and how great they are.
• Let us also talk or confess our issues, our deepest concerns and our sins.
• We are sinners in need of saving
5. The writer says, “ Let us be confident, be confessing, and our mission is to be continual
• This is the mission of the church, continually provoking one another towards good works. Meeting together. And encouraging one another.
• We continue to support each other to live a faithful Christian life, so Hebrews challenges us to “provoke” one another we should provoke each other to get regular spiritual checkups.
• We continue to help each other when troubles arise.
• Let us be confident in the Christ who give us hope
• Let us be always be the confessing and encouraging people to confess their sins and receive the gift of forgiveness
• Let us continue , spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
• Let us be willing to recognize and accept that we have done wrong,” “We have sinned against God, others, and ourselves. We cannot repair the wrong or remove the guilt ourselves.”
