The Self-Existence Of God And Our Dependency On Him
By Ptr Jack Segismundo
Text: (Isaiah 46:9).
“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me”
Introduction:
Good day to everyone. Today we will be discussing “The self-existence of God and our dependency on Him”. The self-existence of God is the Aseity of God. It means that He is sufficient to Himself, independent of anything outside Himself. He is the source of all things, the One who originated everything and who sustains everything that exists. In spite of this evident truth, yet people deny that God exists.
To live without God is to live without hope - hope for eternity, hope for a best life to live and hope for a life filled with God’s abundance of blessings. And those who are without this hope have these reasons why they deny the existence of God:
Psalm 14:1
1 The fool[a] says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
I. Reasons why people refuse to acknowledge the existence of God
1. They simply choose not to believe.
John 12:37
“Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.” It is not the lack of evidence that people will not believe. It is clearly because they choose not to believe and their mind is prohibited against all evidence, regardless of its integrity, or inevitability. They just simply do not care.
2. There is a desire to continue in their own lifestyle and refuse the ways of God. People seeks to live a life without guilt and follow their own chosen lifestyle.
“Guilt is cancer. Guilt will confine you, torture you, destroy you….. It's a black wall. It's a thief.” - Dave Grohl
3. Unwillingness to investigate the facts about God
People are prohibited from a desire to investigate facts, because they simply do not care to gain any further knowledge. They are relatively comfortable with their position and do not want to explore any further.
4. Personal hurt or disappointment.
Hurt or disappointment in life may cause people to question the very existence of God. And if there is God why is He not in control of everything. This may cause their unwillingness to believe that God exists.
5. Personal hatred of Jesus.
The reason that people will not come to God and believe upon Him, is due to their hatred of Jesus.
6. Love of sin
People would rather be left alone and live in sin and have chosen and not be told that they are accountable to God. The real reason that men do not repent and submit their lives to Jesus is that they love their sins more than they wanted to know about God.
1 John 2:15-17
“15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
7. Simple lack of knowledge.
The lack of knowledge about God and the misconceptions about Him are due to a lack of information about Him.
“What you believe is very powerful. If you have toxic emotions of fear, guilt and depression, it is because you have wrong thinking, and you have wrong thinking because of wrong believing.” - Joseph Prince
II. The self-existence of God
God does not need man to continue to exist but we cannot continue to exist without Him. I would like to present to you who really God is.
1. God does not need anything for Him to continue to exist
He does not need a source to exist. He is the source of all existence both the visible and invisible
2. He is not caused by anything outside of Himself
3. God is self-sufficient, self-sustaining and self-satisfied
a. God is self-sufficient – No one could add up or subtract anything to what God is already is
Acts 17:24
24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.
b. God is self-sustaining – God does not need any outside source to continue to exist. God exist by Himself.
"The Father hath life in himself." - John 5:26
c. God is self-satisfied – God does not need anything to satisfy Himself.
Acts 17:25
“25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.”
III. We need God
1. We need God to continue to exist
2. We need God to sustain ourselves
3. We need God to be satisfy ourselves
Conclusion:
Let us not deceive ourselves that we can continue with this life without God. We need God more than He needed us. As the Book of Acts 17:28
Acts 17:28
‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’
