1. I have very little problems with the so-called big sins.
a. The terms little and big are man’s classification and not God’s.
b. Sin is sin with God, not big and little.
c. Big sins; murder, adultery, lying, stealing.
2. For most of us, we do battle with the little sins every day.
a. Pride, envy
b. Anger, covetousness, slothfulness.
3. I say they are deadly because they kill.
a. You, peace, joy, testimony.
b. The church, homes, jobs.
4. If you will notice all of these sins, come from a bad heart.
a. God is more concerned with the inside than with the outside.
b. Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 5:8, 15:18-20, 23:25-28
I. There is a Vast Difference Between Pride and Self Respect
1. Please don’t confuse the two.
2. A man must have self-respect. 1 Timothy 4:12
a. Joseph, Daniel, young men, and young ladies today.
b. Proper esteem or regard for the dignity of one’s character.
3. Self-respect motivates us to seek the inward satisfaction of work well done.
a. Keeps the dishes washed
b. Floors swept
c. Supper cooked
II. Pride
1. It seems if God hates one sin more than any other it is pride.
a. Pride occurs 48 times in the bible.
b. Proud at least 75 times.
2. Pride is an evidence we are living in the last days. 2 Timothy 3:1-4
3. Proverbs 6:16-19; Pride heads the list of six things God hates.
a. Proverbs 8:13
b. Proverbs 16:5, 21:4
4. And to a certain degree all of us must deal with the sin of pride.
a. Sinners, not saved, too proud to come.
b. Saved, not serving, and not coming to church.
c. Families, husband and wife, parents, and children.
III. What are We Proud About?
1. Some men are proud of their social standing.
a. The case of the tilted chin.
b. Race relations, Texas
c. Some too social prominent to sit on same pew with the women who takes in washing and ironings.
d. If they don’t wear clothes as nice as ours. James 2:14
2. Some are proud of their intellectual attainments.
a. 1 Corinthians 8:1-2
b. 1 Corinthians 1:18-29
c. 1 Corinthians 3:18-20
3. Some are proud of their wealth
a. Listen to the warning given by Moses.
b. Deuteronomy 8:11-18
4. Some are proud of their spirituality.
a. Proverbs 14:9
b. Philippians 3:17-19
IV. The Result of Pride
1. Its final fruit is failure.
a. Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel 4:30-32
b. Proverbs 16:18
2. Pride brings misery.
3. Pride prevents friendships.
4. Pride brings shame.
